My sister told me about VAP as she participated in a conservation project a few years ago with you. I wanted to do some travelling by myself and I also wanted to meet new people. I love the outdoors so this workcamp seemed perfect for me.

We did a lot of conservation work, building hiking paths, tidying up wooded areas, removing weeds, planting trees, etc. The work was extremely successful and I found it very rewarding.

The leaders’ management of the workcamp project was unfailing any problems that arose were dealt with promptly and effectively by the workcamp leaders. They let us choose the work we wanted to do and tried to make sure everybody was happy. They also let us try different things so we weren’t bored. The domestic arrangements were were fine and we had very few issues with the domestics of the workcamp. The organisation of the camp community was excellent everybody was happy and there were very few complaints.

The accommodation at the Hostel was excellent. During the second week we were camping which caused some problems due to the bad weather but luckily there was a lodge down the road which we were able to stay in. The food was excellent. We ran out at one point but more supplies were sent to us efficiently.

We did a lot of work with people in the local community and we were given a place to stay by the local people when our tents got broken by the weather. We spent a lot of time with the locals which was very enjoyable.

Our leisure activities were mainly swimming, eating out, touring the city, sightseeing, dancing and clubbing. Our leaders organised a game for us all which enabled us to see the sights of Reykjavik at the same time.

The workcamp was much more than what I could have wished for. I had an amazing time and met some fantastic people.

Quote of the day

« In total I spent just under 3 weeks in Iceland. I had the best time of my life ever. And I feel my life has benefited from the change it has brought about within me and the valuable lessons I learnt. I have more awareness of life, a larger sense of adventure and heightened curiosity about the world. »
