Leaders Kyrgyzstan
The Centre for Civil Initiative "Leader" is the partner organisation of YAP UK in Kyrgyzstan.
Leader is a non-profit, non-governmental, community-based organization located in a regional center of eastern Kyrgyzstan. Founded in 1991, Leaders original mission was as a youth and student club, a role it maintained into the late 90s. In 1998, the organizations goals became broader, including a wider range of services for the community, and in 2001 Leader acquired its current name and mission. Leader today provides a wide array of services for eastern Issyk-Kul Oblast, and Karakol City in particular, including an active volunteer center, a community internet access and training center, assistance for organizations and individuals designing projects, a Microcredit center, and numerous seminars for assisting other NGOs in their own development.
Our mission: To develop the civic leadership and potential of non-commercial organizations and initiative groups, to empower them in the construction of civil society.
Leader Volunteer Center has been the local point of volunteer activities in our town, Karakol, for 7 years. Our volunteers, all local school children and university students, have participated in a wide range of activities, including assisting in the work of local NGOs, teaching English and computer literacy, cleaning up the local beach on Lake Issyk-Kul, and numerous other activities. This year, we look forward to broadening our scope, and introducing our own volunteers to the opportunities for service and travel awaiting abroad.
