WORK:During the summer we will be helping with the day to day running of the community, and interacting with our guests and members, ongoing work to the grounds and gardens, ditches to be cleared and fencing to be repaired and painted.
STUDY THEME:
Volunteer Action for Peace participates in the worldwide programme International Voluntary Service for Climate Justice at our first Othona summer workcamp of 2019. Under the catchphrase "Thinking Globally, Acting Locally" the group joins Othona residents to raise awareness of the impact of humanity on the natural environment, the importance of biodiversity and the protection of ecosystems. Volunteers move on to consider practical measures for the sustainable production of food, energy and clean water.
Accomodation & food:
In tents (Please bring your own) close to the community centre. Food will be healthy and home-made. Vegetarian diets can be catered for.
Location & leisure:
LOCATION:The Othona Community is situated on the east coast of Essex, next to a nature reserve. It is 5 Km from the nearest village.
LEISURE:
During the volunteers' time there, there will be themed study weeks. Details of these events can be viewed on Othona's website http://www.othona-bradwell.org.uk/EventsOutside their work duties volunteers are encouraged to join in these activities.
Requirements:
VAP HOSTING FEE: Volunteers will be asked to pay a fee of £80 GBP upon arrival. VAP charges this fee as without it we would be virtually unable to organise any projects in the UK.
