Main focus of the Workcamp is the renovating the inside and outside of the „playhouse". Especially the wood paneling on the outside needs to be refurbished: sanding off the wood and repainting with preservative. The doors need a new paint job as well. On the inside a lot of repainting work is waiting as well and you can get artistic and creative on some walls, ceilings and doors. Depending on the work progress you might also help with greening some parts of the playhouse to improve the indoor climate. Apart from the work on the playhouse, there are lots of smaller projects waiting in the outdoor area of the Aki that can be tackled by the volunteers according to the progress on the playhouse.
Accomodation & food:
The group will stay in the playhouse directly on the AKI area, where there is enough space for separate sleeping rooms. Kitchen, toilets and showers are provided. However sanitary facilities are quite basic.
Location & leisure:
The adventure playground is located on the edge of Raitelsberg, which was built in the 1920s as a working class quarter in the eastern part of Stuttgart. It is only a few minutes to walk to the next subway station, the "Schlosspark" the Stuttgart's biggest park area and a mineral spring spa. Stuttgart has about 600,000 inhabitants and is the state-capital of BW. From museums, to castles and parks, to an afternoon spent shopping, the city offers something for everyone. Just a short train ride away you can enjoy the variety of nature around Stuttgart. Take a visit to some of the other interesting towns in the area, like Tuebingen (approximately 1 hour away) and Ludwigsburg (approximately 30 minutes away).
Carpentry - Restoration of the roof construction of the oldest part of the manorThere is still existing one part of the manor which walls remain from the previous baroque building. The current roof construction and the roofing are dating back only to the early 20th century, but unfortunately the construction was underdesigned so that it got broken in the meantime. Last year volunteers removed already the roofing and the old roof construction. Under the professional guidance of a carpenter the participants of the Building Weeks 2018 will continue these works, in particular construct a new roof construction and reroof the building.Because it will be sometimes not possible that the whole group will work on the roof at the same time the other volunteers will carry out in these times works on the ground and in the garden as well as small renovation works in the manor.
Accomodation & food:
shared rooms with beds, warm shower and toilets, no washing machines available,The meals will be prepared together as they are part of the community life, what means that everybody will be responsible for the meal at least once during its stay. So it would be very nice if you could bring typical recipes from home in order to introduce each other to the preparation of food from all over the world.
Location & leisure:
Gantikow Manor is situated 100 kilometres north of Berlin. The house is surrounded by a nice village with a medieval church and a lake. The manor is a picturing example of a former baroque building, changed in the late 19th century in neo-baroque style. Over centuries, the houses belonged to the Earls von Platen, which sold it in 1872 to a civil family which started soon, in 1877, with the modernisation of the house and kept it in their ownership till 1945. After World War II, the house was first used as a refugee shelter and after that the community used the house as a village centre, hosting the community office, the local store, the school, the kindergarten, the doctor's room, the kitchen of the agricultural cooperative and several apartments. With its many rooms the large building is perfect to be used as a Youth Accommodation House. The house is surrounded by a beautiful garden with old trees which reached originally up to the lake. Around the Manor house in Gantikow, in the beautiful garden, with its old trees, there is much space for outside activities and leisure time. A small lake is situated nearby the old building, where it is possible to go swimming. And also the surrounding area with its many lakes and unique small towns invites for trips.

Volunteers should be prepared to be flexible and take part in any work that will support the foresters.

There is no heating in the tents and on the island you have to use compost toilets. The accommodation is quite isolated so volunteers should come with ideas about how to entertain themselves in the evenings! The foresters of the project have built a nice and comfortable block house where the group will meet and eat. A small kitchen is available and food can be cooked on a gas hob cooker. This is a camp for Nature Lovers!!!!!!
You will mainly work in the canyon "Butzerbachgraben" crossing the village. It has been a real jungle, so they already started to do some forest work to make it accessible again. Your tasks will be to improve several hundred meters of the path leading through the canyon (construct wooden steps and handrails, install educational panels and build up places to rest (with wooden benches). If there is time enough, you might also create an outdoor classroom for the primary school nearby. You will work with some local volunteers; therefore you will also work on Saturdays (as many locals are available) but will have another day off during the week. The work can be physically hard in parts and you will get dirty. But you will work in the shadow which can be quite helpful in summer.

You can also sit outside and make a barbecue or a campfire.
