The city of Brenderup is a small town with around 2000 inhabitants. In the town there is a small supermarket and a few other small shops. There is about 3-4 kilometers to the beach from where we're staying and there is some forest in the nearby area. The closest larger city is Odense, which is the third largest city in Denmark. It takes around 50 minutes with the bus to Odense. Odense is most known for being the birth place of the famous Danish writer Hans Christian Andersen. It is the second time that the folk high school in Brenderup is hosting a workcamp. Last year they build a straw bale house and this year we are going to make the garden/park surrounding the house more useful for outdoor activity. I really hope you like the outdoor life, because the school is full of it. This year is the main project will be to build a shelter in three meters height in between some trees. The garden is absolutely amassing, with some beautiful old trees. The host would love to have a lot of outdoor activity equipment in the garden, build out of environment friendly materials (mainly wood), so if you have some ideas bring them! There will also be a lot of other things small jobs to do around the garden and maybe a little work with the straw bale house.

The prime focus at this workcamp will be the environment and international interaction. In august 2008 four small village schools becomes one. Lihme School, Roedding School, Ramsing School and Lem School become Vestsalling School and kindergardens (VSD). At this workcamp you are going to work with environmental issues together with Students from Skives Teacher seminar, and the teachers and oldest pupils at Lem School. The environment and global warming is a very hot topic these days, and it is the youth of the world who is going to live with the consequences in the future. At this work camp we are going to make a mini Climate Change Conference for the youth. At the workcamp we are going to work with climate and environmental issues in various ways, for instance natural science experiments, media and theatre. We hope that the camp will make notable response to the UNs International Climate Conference, which will be held in Copenhagen December 2009.

« The most beautiful thing about volunteering obviously is the people you meet… the helpfulness the understanding…there is always someone who puts a plate of food in front of you if you say you are not hungry and not in the mood, or gives you a pep talk or simply a hug. »
