The volunteers will continue the construction of the youth center that was started last year. This work will involve carrying sand on wheel barrows from a nearby stream to the camp site, moving blocks from the place they were made to the camp site.
ACCOMMODATION:
The volunteers will be accommodated in locally made huts.
ORIENTATION:
An orientation is normally organized a day before the start of the work camp with the intentions of briefing participants about YAZ as an organization, Zambia`s socioeconomic background, cultural issues etc. As a matter of policy the orientations shall be held on Saturday before departure to the work camp sites and the participants must arrive on the Friday to have rest time and also to get to know each other, as well to get knowledge of the host community before the orientation.
COST OF PARTICIPATION IN A YAZ WORKCAMP:
The work camp participation fee is 210 Euros per participant, which covers simple work camp meals, arrangements for the whole work camp preparation in terms of communication, electronic mailing and transport for meeting with different stakeholders. YAZ organizes transport for participants from the airport to (YAZ office) ONLY, where the orientation of participants takes place prior to departure to work camps destination. Pick up transport cost is 20 Euros.
PLEASE NOTE:
Travel expenses from YAZ office after the orientation to work camp places and back are not covered in this 210 Euros camp fee. Participants are therefore advised to spare a small amount, which is around 50 Euros for traveling to and from work camp place.
« We did a lot of conservation work, building hiking paths, tidying up wooded areas, removing weeds, planting trees, etc. The work was extremely successful and I found it very rewarding. »
