Heritage Trails, Uganda is a museum of Uganda's history and culture with 3 sites inscribed by the UNESCO in three different places of the country, organized together with Uganda Wildlife Authority, Uganda Tourist Board, Uganda Museum and Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, as a response to growing interest of young people to undertake concrete actions and to play an active role in the promotion and preservation of Uganda's heritage. They initiated the Heritage Trail working on "making good relationship between nature and human beings" aiming to make people, especially youth, appreciate and know different aspects of heritage whether cultural/natural (beautiful/strong/cultural/strong/strict/generous nature) As a bridge between people and culture/nature. A lot of outdoor activities are organized, like International Workcamps, 2 weeks workcamps, Festivals and cultural gala for youth, individuals, institutions and well wishers.
Work:
Coordination with stakeholders, exploring the forest and villages of the three inscribed UNESCO heritage sites. Participants will prepare and support to organize outdoor activities and workcamps.Organise outreach programmes for the surrounding communities/stakeholders to benefit; volunteers may also help communities on small sustainable tourism in the area identified by the site manager and develop/design promotion materials for individual sites.

Accommodation:
Housing on site grounds and identified place in the community near the heritage sites, bring sleeping bags. Kitchen space available in a local setting using fire wood and three stones.
Location:
One of the sites is peri-urban and two are rural - Mountains of the Moon is in Kabarole district which form part of the Ruwenzori Mountains the DRC, and Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, located in Kanunga/Kisoro districts also bordering the DRC which is sanctuary to the few remaining gorillas in the world and other rare fauna and flora.
Leisure Activities:
Site visits, cultural talks, picnic, and enjoy the outdoor environment, mountain climbing and gorilla tracking.
Airport pickups:
Uganda Voluntary Development Association will pick vols. from the airport as per their schedule. Expense incurred from the pickup place (only city centre) is covered by UVDA as part of the participation fee provided you arrive during office hours an extra fee shall be levied on night arrivals. So volunteers are encouraged to communicate/confirm their arrival at least a week before departure for proper preparations.
Special remarks:
No smoking is allowed at any of the work sites.
MTV/LTV Participation fee:
1 month - EURO 300 2 to 3 months - EURO 450 4 to 6 months - EURO 750
This fee is ONLY for monitoring, upkeep in families and evaluation of the participants while at the project. It includes airport transportation, orientation, family housing, project preparation and supervision, project participation certificate.
M/LTVs will be asked to contribute an additional fee of US$100 for the Insurance and volunteers permit.

Requirements:
Volunteers for this project must speak English and motivated to work, play with children. Creativity and Entertainment relevant to young children or in a children’s environment is encouraging Working clothing for painting and construction.

Accommodation will be in nearby house and tents. This is an urban setting and most of the diet is local Buganda food with other vols, contribute from their pocket if they wish to have a desired foreign meal.

Site visits on Lake Victoria the botanical gardens, swimming by the beaches, City Centre tour and Entebbe

200 Euros payable on arrival covers pick-up at the airport, meals at the project, and transport to the site. Buntaba Primary School was adopted as a 2014 UVDA project to uplift the learning conditions of the school. The school has a population of over 300 children with very poor sanitation facilities, low staff manpower to tend to this growing number of children. Of the permanent structures available one was destroyed by the heavy downpours and the community around is needs to be mobilized for them to take charge in the activities of the school as required in the Universal Primary Education guidelines. ACTIVITY: Construction of water & Sanitation facilities at the school, teaching in classroom, outreach programmes to the community.

Improve on school water and sanitation facilities to increase enrollment and attendance for quality education.

Accommodation will vary from host families to a group accommodation on site. This is purely a traditional food setting and most of the food stuff is original Baganda culture at some vols, can contribute from their pocket to have a change in meals preparation.
