There is a 4km road leading to the VWASL community villages. This road is often rendered impassable by the persistent rains, especially so as it often rains heavily. Deep potholes develop, which makes it often difficult for vehicles which use that road to collect supplies of wood, charcoal and agricultural products for the capital city of Freetown. It is a week’s camp, which will be appropriate for the type of work and would also favor those who do not have enough time, so they may use whatever time left on their hand outside the camp all on themselves.
Type of Work:
The water will be drained from the few potholes on the road, refilled with either stones or sticks to harden the ground for the vehicles. Awkward areas of the road would be leveled. Working tools: Shovels, pickaxes, hoes, machetes, sticks, stones, containers, gloves.

« The most beautiful thing about volunteering obviously is the people you meet… the helpfulness the understanding…there is always someone who puts a plate of food in front of you if you say you are not hungry and not in the mood, or gives you a pep talk or simply a hug. »
