Volunteer Abroad > VAP 30+ Programme

VAP is looking into the possibility of enlarging the range of projects available for older volunteers under a separate scheme. We feel that there are many people who may be retired, or would like to take a break from work to do something worthwhile and at the same time enjoy a new experience in a different surrounding.

More about VAP 30+

These projects will be for a minimum of 6 months and are intended for those who either have a qualification or experience in fields which will be useful in developing countries. Although the projects will be run by an organisation in the host country, each one will have been previously vetted by a volunteer member of VAP.

Candidates will be selected for each position available and some familiarisation training given before departure. As usual volunteers will be responsible for their own travel arrangements. There will also be a charge to cover both the costs involved to VAP and approved funds that may be requested by the host country. This cost is anticipated to be at least £1000, but will vary depending on the individual needs of the scheme. It is likely that projects will begin at schools and hospitals in Kenya.

At this stage we are conducting a feasibility and are looking for interest and feedback from potential volunteers. Any comments and thoughts you have will be much appreciated. Please contact Tony Cullimore at tony[at]bheltd.co.uk

Quote of the day

« When volunteering in Malawi and Tanzania while at school and during my year out I developed a love of East Africa and soon felt itchy to go back. On discovering VAP I found a number of workcamps in Kenya and at far more affordable prices than any 'volunteer abroad' organisations. I chose a 6 week workcamp based at a secondary school in western Kenya... »
