VAP Training Programmes > The North-South Training Programme

Training for volunteers going on voluntary work projects in Africa, Latin America and Asia. Learn about development, intercultural issues and conflict resolution.

The North-South Training Programme is designed for volunteers living in the UK who have been placed on international volunteer projects in the “South” which is what we call countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia (except for Japan, South Korea and Taiwan).

North-South Training

The North-South Training Programme is designed for volunteers living in the UK who have been placed on international volunteer projects in the “South” which is what we call countries in Africa, Latin America and Asia (except for Japan, South Korea and Taiwan).

Over a weekend of training the expectations and fears of the volunteers are tested, intercultural learning techniques explored, global issues of development investigated, practical and health information passed on and the philosophy of volunteering examined, using a wide range of different educational methods including games, theatre, and intensive discussion and analysis. This is all done in an environment designed to resemble a “workcamp” to give the participants a real taste of what is to come. These weekends are hugely popular and a great way to learn about the different methods for successful training. If you want to find out more please get in touch.

In 2010 VAP organises one North-South Training on 4-6 June in a venue called Clow Beck Centre, near Darlington.

Quote of the day

« The organisation of the camp community was fantastic! The group was great and we bonded quickly, language was always going to be a tricky one, but everyone attempted English and Indonesian so it made the whole experience fun and educational. »

Kirstin D. from Thirsk
