Introducing VAP’s Training Programme

VAP Training Programme in detail

This exciting weekend of training covers volunteers’ expectations and concerns, intercultural learning techniques, global development issues, practical and health information, and the philosophy behind international volunteering.

The two groups for which the VAP training programme is designed for are:

Volunteers based in the UK who have been placed on volunteer projects abroad
Volunteers who will be co-ordinating projects in the UK

This exciting weekend of training covers volunteers’ expectations and concerns, intercultural learning techniques, global development issues, practical and health information, and the philosophy behind international volunteering. Alongside the full-group sessions, there are also more individualised sessions to focus on specific aspects, such as long-term volunteering, European Voluntary Service, volunteering in developing countries, and how to co-ordinate a project.

And it’s definitely not just talk without the walk – we use a wide range of different methods including games, theatre, intensive discussion, and attention to the particular interests and concerns of the volunteers attending. What’s more, this all takes place in an environment set up to resemble a “workcamp” to give the participants a real taste of what is to come. These weekends are hugely popular and are a great first step into your volunteering adventure. You’ll be able to have your questions answered, share ideas and make new friends. If you want to find out more, please just get in touch!

The next VAP training weekend will be held on 29 and 30 June 2019, at the Othona community in East Essex. Do try to make sure you are free on these dates before you apply to participate in or co-ordinate a workcamp – it would be a great shame to miss out on this chance to prepare yourself and meet like-minded volunteers!
