Sinoteach is an intercultural and educational exchange consortium based in Yantai City and that encourages cultural awareness and understanding through cultural immersion, language study and volunteering experience. We focus on placement of international volunteers who are native speakers of English to teach conversational English at our affiliate schools in need in local communities in Yantai City, China. Our Teaching and Volunteering Programme is designed to promote volunteerism and improve the quality of English education by international volunteers' efforts and endeavors in China.
Sinoteach is an institution through affiliation of volunteers, by volunteers and for volunteers with a mission of promoting intercultural understanding and exchange between Chinese schools and the rest of the world. The mission of our Teaching and Volunteering Programme is structured and designed to enhance the intercultural exchange and understanding between China and the rest of the world and bring volunteers from the West to gain an insight into modern Chinese culture and society in its full perspective and to provide equal education opportunities for all children in local communities in need through English language teaching and cultural immersion and volunteering as well.
Our Teaching and Volunteering Program offers international volunteers a great opportunity to gain extremely rewarding experiences by teaching English in Chinese schools ranging from short-term placements of one month up to one academic year. We have 15 affiliate schools ranging from kindergartens, primary schools, high schools and colleges throughout Yantai in both urban and rural areas.
Teaching Assignments:
Any English topics as per the English proficiency of the students. No political or religious subjects are allowed in class.
Locations:
15 affiliate schools throughout Yantai City, China, ranging from kindergarten, primary schools, junior and senior high schools.
Age groups of students:
-4 or 5 years old on kindergarten. -6 to 12 years old on primary schools. -13-15 years old on junior high schools. -16 to 18 on senior high schools.
Teaching schedule:
About 4 or 6 hours per day from Monday to Friday. Weekends are free.
Requirements:
-Native English speaker. -Healthy and fit for overseas travel and work. -Enthusiastic to teach in China. -No Chinese Mandarin required. No working experience required. No degree or diploma requested.
Accommodation:
At private apartments on campus. Each volunteer has one private room with living facilities, such as TV, internet, furniture, beddings and shower with bathroom.
Meals:
Provided in the school cafeteria on campus during weekdays. Volunteers will be eating together with the Chinese students and teachers.
Vacancies for each semester:
30 openings for volunteer teaching project for each semester. 60 candidates required for each year.
Program Fees:
-One month - US$400 per volunteer for one-time placement. -Two to four months - No program fees (thanks to public grants and scholarships in 2012).
