Volunteers are going to work for 4 hours daily, 5 days per week to help in painting arrangements inside the Omar bin Khatab Orphans Society and will organise some social and cultural activities for the Bin Rashid School. In the afternoons we will meet Jordanian families and associations to exchange ideas about peace in the world. We will also visit some of the historical sites like Jerash, Ajlun and the lowest point on earth, the Dead Sea. One of the most important aims of this project is to merge the volunteers with the Jordanian society, in order to give them a closer picture of Jordan.
LOCATION:
Jabal Tareq / Zarqa, which means “the blue one”, is lying some 14 miles (23 km) northeast of the capital of Jordan, Amman. Al-Zarqa is the second-largest city in the country (pop. 750,000 in 2006). The village witnessed tremendous growth beginning in the 1950s due to the presence of a major military base, the development of industry and a free trade zone, and the influx of Palestinian refugees, who represent 60 to 70 percent of the population.
ACCOMMODATION:
In a house, sleeping bag needed.
HOSTING FEES:
200 Euro to be paid on arrival. This fee will cover the costs of the accommodation and transportation during the camps period. Please note that the entry fees to the historical places are not included in the camp fee.
We depend in financing our international voluntary organisation in Jordan on the fees of the volunteers, as there is no any financial support from any authority to support our international voluntary activities. We did our best to reduce the fees to the maximum (especially the volunteer residence as well as the most important part in the programme for us which is the leisure time). While looking for a suitable location to organise a voluntary workcamp, we kept bourgeois places away. Instead we chose to live with the locals, so the volunteers can become familiar with their lifestyle and understand the local culture and habits. Both sides will be able to exchange their points of view. The participants in these projects will learn many things about Jordan, the land of Peace, and its history.

« When volunteering in Malawi and Tanzania while at school and during my year out I developed a love of East Africa and soon felt itchy to go back. On discovering VAP I found a number of workcamps in Kenya and at far more affordable prices than any 'volunteer abroad' organisations. I chose a 6 week workcamp based at a secondary school in western Kenya... »
