Huascarán National Park (Parque Nacional Huascarán) is a national park in the Cordillera Blanca, a range of the Andes, in Ancash, central Peru. It was pronounced as Natural Heritage of Humanity and recognized as Reserve of Biosphere Core by UNESCO. The highest mountain in Peru is located in the park (also named Huascarán, reaching 6,768 metres high).
PROJECT OBJECTIVES:
- Contribute to the efforts to conserve, restore and maintain the protected area, through the active participation of communities and national and international volunteers.
- Create awareness in the local communities on the importance of the Huascaran National Park.
- To contribute to the development of ecological awareness, aimed at achieving sustainability, and preservation of the Huascaran National Park
Volunteering at the Huascaran National Park, offers you the opportunity to reinforce and/or gain knowledge in the Management and Conservation of Natural Protected Areas (NPA), through in situ conservation experiences, participation in different activities of NPA management, promotion of research and participation in training events sponsored by the NPA during their stay in the Reserve.
ACTIVITIES:
- Environmental education for Indigenous people living in the reserve. - Ecosystem restoration. - Ecotourism and environmental interpretation. - Control and Monitoring of the Natural Reserve of Huascaran. - Biodiversity Assessment.
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will stay in a house in the city with basic services. It is important to mention that every volunteer should bring a sleeping bag.
LOCATION:
Huaraz is the capital of Ancash department, its altitude is 3.080 metres above sea level, is one of the most important cities in the mountains of Peru, located 407 km north of Lima.
LANGUAGE:
English, but it will be very useful to have basic Spanish knowledge.
PROJECT COST:
195 Euros. This payment made by the volunteers will cover the costs of lodging and food, as well as operational and administrative costs of the project.
