This project will give you the chance to develop an approach on the vivential knowledge of rural life in the highlands of Peru. During the development of the project, volunteers will be in frequent contact with the geography and Andean demography, developing communal work with people from the community, children, youth and adults in typical community tasks.
AIM:
The main aim of the project is to raise awareness of the lifestyle of the Andean communities of Peru, to live and share with the locals and understand a great deal of the personal richness of the Peruvian natives included in their cultural and geographic context.
ACTIVITIES:
- To teach youth and children the language(s) you speak (English, French among others) as well as to learn the native language of Peru - Quechua.
- To participate in daily tasks with families (sowing, harvesting, irrigation building houses, etc).
- To participate in the activities of the community (communal tasks, patronal festivities among others).
- To participate in the improvement of the economic activities of the community (agriculture, irrigation systems, etc).
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will stay in a house in the community. It is important to mention that every volunteer should bring a sleeping bag and if it is possible an air bed and/or a rubber one.
Language:
Spanish.
Project costs:
200 euros. This payment made by the volunteers will cover the costs of lodging and food, as well as operational and administrative costs of the project.
The project will be developed in the archaeological zone of Chan Chan, recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site and World Heritage in Danger since November 1986. During the project volunteers will perform three specific actions: Conservation, Defense & Protection, Educational.
ACTIVITIES:
CONSERVATION:
There are two factors that have caused the gradual deterioration of the archaeological zone of Chan Chan, the natural environment and the social environment, so we propose to execute the following actions...
Within the process of conservation work, volunteers will help archaeologists and workers to restore and clean the walls that have been destroyed by time, making bricks for the reconstruction of the destroyed walls respecting the procedure for preparing and carrying ancestral material used for reconstruction.
DEFENSE AND PROTECTION:
Within these campaigns, actions will be organised for cleaning and removing garbage dumps from wooded places, and raising awareness of the importance of keeping the historic centre clean.
EDUCATIONAL:
Educational programs will be developed with conservation action, advocacy and protection of heritage. Volunteers will visit schools and teach children and youth about care and protection of heritage. They will also be performing activities of integration between their group of international volunteers and the student population, they will visit the archaeological site to educate students on care and maintenance of their heritage. Awareness raising campaigns will also be conducted through subjects such as arts, drawing contests, festivals and tours to the archaeological site involving the general public and various stakeholders.
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will stay in a house in the city with basic services. It is important to mention that every volunteer should bring a sleeping bag.
LOCATION:
Trujillo, the City of Eternal Spring. Located in the northwestern part of Peru, it is the capital of La Libertad Department and the third biggest city in the country, at a distance of 580 km from Lima.
LANGUAGE:
English, but it will be very useful to have basic Spanish knowledge.
PROJECT COST:
€200 euros. This payment made by the volunteers will cover the costs of lodging and food, as well as operational and administrative costs of the project.
The project will develop in the archaeological site of Caral Sacred City, which is the oldest city in Peru more than 5000 years old. It hosted the first Andean civilization that shaped the foundations of an own unique social organization, which along with Mesopotamia, Egypt, India, China and Mesoamerica are originating sources of culture in the world, and was recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 2009.
OBJECTIVES:
• To educate and raise awareness through concrete actions for the care and conservation of the archaeological site of Caral. • To contribute to the efforts of conserving, restoring and maintaining the archaeological zone, through the active participation of national and international volunteers. • To recruit and involve local and national volunteers in working for the development of Caral. The presence of international volunteers will serve as encouragement and motivation to integrate the youth of the region through volunteerism.

The district of Supe Puerto is located in the Department of Lima, Barranca province, north of the capital of Peru. It is located precisely at kilometre 190 of the Panamericana Norte road.
