The project is open throughout the whole year and volunteers can stay from one to twelve months.
BACKGROUND:
The Youth Development Center is a space for youth development; also hosts administrative, production, sale and storage of processed products such as yoghurt, jams and caramel made by young entrepreneurs of the community programme participants' “Young Leaders Initiative " of the Brigada de Voluntarios Bolivarianos del Peru.
The Youth Center as space is a scenario to generate citizenship in young people as social, cultural, creative and educational space for the community.
The Center provides services to the priority population (women, children, youth, seniors and/or disabled) on basics for their development such as: development of productive projects, health, non-formal education, culture, arts, recreation, sports.
WORK:
The volunteers will conduct various activities, according to their skills, experiences and interests, under the frame of the programmed activities “Youth Leaders in Action", eg. production of yoghurt, jam, cream, as well as academic activities, such as the school support on some educational subjects; implementing and developing various workshops with the girls that will raise their spirit of initiative and creativity; support in the workshops of sewing, weaving, painting and sports activities; recreational activities such as music, dance, handcrafts.
The volunteers are going to work from Monday to Friday and on weekends they will have free time.
VOLUNTEER QUALIFICATIONS:
• The volunteers should have basic knowledge of Spanish. • Motivation, adaptation, team work.
LOCATION:
Palca is located in the Andes at 2,739 m above sea level, 20 kilometers from the province of Tarma. The census population in 2009 are approximately 7,698 inhabitants, the main activity of the local people is agriculture and livestock. Most families are working and owning their own businesses (farms or shops). Most homes are in the rural area, within the district of Palca with its 47 annexes. People in the community are welcoming, this shows in the care they provide to visitors. Palca has basic services of water and electrical power in this community the only access is by road, it has mobile phone service (light) and internet.
MENTORING:
The volunteer will have a mentor that will support her/his work at the project. She will also participate in social activities together with local volunteers from Brigada de Voluntarios Bolivarianos del Perú.
ACCOMMODATION:
The volunteer(s) will live in the house of a family in Pachacamac with the basic services provided.
FOOD:
Breakfast, dinner and lunch to be provided by the host family.
