During summer holidays, the center Tsomanotik organizes workshops and activities focusing on raising awareness among children and teenagers of Tzimol and Comitan on archeological questions, sustainable development and making sure that at the same time participants can practice basic English. In that way, young Mexicans and foreigners work together in the planning and designing of these workshops.
WORK:
Volunteers during the month of June will divide their time in the archeological activities of the center and the design of workshops which will be allocated in July until August 15th.
The particularity of the project is that volunteers will teach children basic agro-ecological issues in English so that at the same time children learn and take part as much as in the English Language as in agro-ecological issues (organic gardens, composts, water care, and alternative energies among others). The Children will also learn from that experience values of solidarity through theatre, music, painting, and other artistic activities and sports.
ACCOMMODATION:
In the Tsomanotik center, double bedrooms with all basic facilities.

Tsomanotik is in the village of Tzimol, community which is at 10 minutes from Comitan in Chiapas.

2500 Mexican Pesos per month.
NB:
Volunteers need to have already some work experience with children and knowledge of English.
Save the Children Mexico (SCMx) is an organization who contributes to the integral development of the children and adolescents of Mexico particularly the most vulnerable groups so that these acquire in their formative process, the knowledge, the habits, the ethical understanding of their rights and values that they require for their personal development. SC-Mexico and Nataté initiate a cooperation with the hosting of 6 national and international volunteers who will participate in the activities organized by SVMx during the summer for the children. The volunteers will support in the Elaboration of materials, Planning of playful, artistic and recreational activities, Support to the educative promoters in the development of the activities for the children, Recording of the experience and Participation in the evaluation and systematization of the experience. This project will take place in 4 public primary schools: 1 Bilingual School (tsotsil/Castilian), 2 Vespertine Primary Schools (young workers), 1 Matutinal Monolingual Primary School (Castilian) and 1 cultural space: Cultural center of Los Altos (young Tsotsiles of the indigenous market).
