PROJECT: Memorial Museum of Victims of Occupation Regimes "Prison on Lontsky Street" was open in 2009. Since than group of historians, designers, volunteers and enthusiasts are working on the development of the museum in order to promote it, to make it interactive cultural place (shoving movies, organizing performances, holding lectures etc). It is the first museum in Ukraine based on the territory of a prison. For almost a century this building was a witness of a cruel actions by the repressive bodies. During different periods it was Polish, Nazi and Soviet detention centre, mainly, for so called political criminals - no matter what nationality was the prisoner, if he or she was against of the regime - it was the reason to be arrested.
WORK:
Volunteers help is needed to arrange the territory of the prison (some manual work about the building and the yard). Besides the team of the museum is preparing to create the on-line archive of the documents about prisoners, so volunteers help will be needed for scanning of the documents. There could be optional work – for example helping while the preparing of the exhibition or help while adopting of the English version of the excursion (together with English speaking guide and with help of camp leaders).Volunteers will have chance to cooperate with young workers of the museum – designers, historians, event-managers.

PROJECT: Brody is a town in Lviv region (25 – 30 thousand of people). It has long and interesting history, beginning in 1084. An important part of the history and culture of the town was created by different national groups - Poles, Jewish, Germans, even Greeks and Scottish. In the XX century cultural landscape of Brody changed a lot according to Soviet cultural tradition. Nevertheless marks of the previous cultures still can be found in the town – synagogue, Jewish cemetery, fortress and architectural monuments of XIX century. Town history is the main field of research in local museum. This project aims to support museum in collecting and preparing materials for investigation of Brody cultural heritage and contribute into the life of the local community.
WORK:
Volunteers are welcomed to help in maintenance of the old historical part of the local cemetery. Work will consist of two parts: manual and creative. Manual part will include paths tidying from dry twigs, leaves and fallen trees; clearing of ancient graves from shrubberies and self sowed plants (grass, bushes), improvement of fences, benches etc. Next step will be making photos and creating catalog of these historical objects. This work will be very useful for explorers of museum, using these materials they will explore interesting and unknown facts about people and their culture in XIX century. Besides, the workcamp itself will impact on local community and inspire people to take active part in cultural life of the town.In the end of the camp it is planned to organize an exhibition about the oldest graves of the cemetery, their history and workshop with local people about town development and how to make it more attractive for tourists.

Brody – town in Lviv region (100 km far from Lviv city) with picturesque outskirts and interesting places to visit – town where different cultures are compared – one of the biggest trade towns of ancient times which used to be on the boarder of the most important trade ways from East to West, from North to South. In XIX century it was the last town of the eastern part of Austrian empire on the boarder with Russian empire.
