Alternative camp (www.alternativecamp.org) is a place for people with both physical and learning disabilities. The camp provides all kind of sport programs as well as social, educational and training activities. It is a very challenging and hard work. Volunteers are expected to help with all manual and social work organized at the camp as well as helping with the daily services such as cleaning, gardening, etc. Volunteers can also develop new activities depending on their talents. Interested volunteers will be trained as dive-buddies for people with disabilities with the standard of HSA (Disabled Scuba Association).
Accomodation:
In triple rooms with bathroom. Sleeping bags and mats are not necessary.

TURKEY. Yeni Sakran is in the west of Turkey by the Aegean Sea coast. Nearest city is Izmir.

THIS IS AN ONGOING PROJECT: volunteers can start at any time and the minimum stay is one month. Although, the recommended maximum stay is 2 months, longer stays up to 6 months are possible with the approval of the camp management. Dates have to be arranged with the host. Volunteers with skills in computers, sports, indoor & outdoor activities, music, drama, fine arts, swimming and diving, handicrafts will be preferred. Teachers of above mentioned fields and skippers for the camp boat are needed especially. Candidates should have a strong motivation to work with disabled people, socially disadvantaged groups & individuals and write a detailed motivation letter including their experience (if any) and wish to be a part of a hard working team. Previous experience is preferable, however good mood and will to work are essential. Note: No alcohol is permitted during the camp at the campsite.
"Summer Science School" (SSS) takes place every summer. Volunteers who have specific talents to share with children, especially in science areas but also music, drama, dance, handicrafts, origami, sculpture, English language, chess, drawing, etc. are welcome. SSS will continue for 10 weeks. Volunteers are expected to work at least for 2 weeks, arriving any Saturday to start the workshop on the Monday. Volunteers will either assist one of the planned workshops or a new workshop class will be open based on their talents. Any new ideas apart form the ones mentioned above are also welcome. If you propose a new workshop field you must be ready to prepare the content of the workshop & run it. Summer School workshops will take place every weekday, between 10.00 – 17.00 with a lunch break in between. Volunteers will be free for weekends.

Volunteers will be hosted in Science Center. Sleeping bags & mats are necessary. Food will be supplied by Science Centers.

Istanbul Science Center is situated very close to the city centre. After 15 minutes walk, all the public transportations are available.

Special requirements:
Volunteers must send a motivation letter explaining their interest, talent & competency on the field they want to assist or lead and must be able to communicate well in English. They are also expected to be patient, tolerant, energetic and good in human relationship because they will work with children. Volunteers must be aware of the simple living conditions. The weather will be hot. Please note that, no alcohol - drugs are permitted during the camp at the campsite and the accommodation venue. Smoking is not allowed in the Science Centers building and accommodation areas and while with the children.
