- Description:
DESCRIPTION OF WORK:Tasks to be performed at "Los Batanes" estate.Hydraulic architecture, canals, ponds and mill: Removal and clearing of vegetation that hides and obstructs, thus favouring the preservation of their traditional uses. Integration of these elements into the landscape to positively impact on their multiple functions (i.e. vegetation, amphibians, watering and landscape). Reposition and replacement of lost elements to ensure their continuity.Enhancement of thematic areas or zones planted with species used for paper manufacturing in the past to help to understand the use of various hydraulic devices.
- Trails:
As a continuation of the work done in the previous workcamp, the roadbed will be strengthened, small runoffs will be corrected, remains will be cleaned and silted water passages will be improved.
- Landscape improvement:
Adaptation and naturalization of wooded areas on the estate under the guidance and supervision of National Park managers.
- Create signs and/or explanatory panels:
- Industrial architecture of the estate- Species reservoir (amphibians, reptiles, birds)- Assess the possibility of conditioning elements that may be used as a supplement to adapt the path for the blind
- Traditional walls:
Continue rebuilding the stone perimeter fence to prevent uncontrolled entry of livestock, raising openings and improving putlog holes and gaps to help the transit of wildlife.
- Dissemination and preservation:
In coordination with the managers of the natural area, to assist in the dissemination and awareness of the environmental values of the area, and carry out tasks that help to its preservation.Take photographic pictures to prepare the annual report.
- COMPLEMENTARY ACTIVITIES - LEISURE ACTIVITIES:
Workshops and group leisure activities will be held. In addition, we will visit Segovia to discover the city.

Los Batanes Youth Hostel is located at Km 27.600 on M-604 road, 2 Km from Rascafría and 98 Km from Madrid, at the head of Lozoya Valley, in the Sierra de Guadarrama National Park.

- THINGS TO BRING:
European Health Card for EU volunteers. Clothes to work; sturdy boots, gloves, T-shirts, long pants, outerwear or rainwear, and cap.Clothing for the rest of the day, comfortable shoes, sportswear, swimsuit, outerwear or rainwear. Towel and cleaning supplies. Canteen, hat and sunscreen. No need to bring a sleeping bag. There are bed sheets at the hostel.Upon arrival, the participant must show the workcamp coordinator the receipt for payment of fees (accommodation, food, entertainment and technical staff, and the scheduled tour included). Transport to the workcamp area is paid for by the participant.

- Develop respectful attitudes towards traditional models of environmental management.- Investigate land management systems that may act as a replicable model of productive structures based on sustainable management of biodiversity in rural areas.- Encourage processes of education, awareness, integration and coexistence among participants.- Value volunteer, group and interdisciplinary work.
- PROFILE-COMMITMENT OF PARTICIPANTS:
The workcamp targets young people between 18 and 30 who are interested in the environment.
- INTERNAL RULES:
A workcamp is an activity in which a group of young people from different backgrounds, voluntarily and selflessly undertake to develop a social aimed project and complementary activities during a set period of time. Performing the project is a way to promote values of coexistence, tolerance, solidarity, participation, intercultural learning, etc.From Monday to Friday morning the actual work of the workcamp will be carried out. A technical director will supervise the tasks.In the afternoon, as well as in the weekends, leisure and recreation activities will be held. A team of monitors will be available for the programmed excursions. Regarding volunteersAs the workcamp is a community of specific objectives, each participant must assume the basic principles stated above, which are mandatory rules:1.- Working selflessly the hours stipulated in the project for five days a week.2.- Collaborate in the organization of the schedule entertainment activities and participate in them.3.- Contribute to the general organization of the workcamp in its specific tasks.4.- Respect the different ideological beliefs and personal differences of participants.5.- Stay on the workcamp for its whole duration.6.- Respect the internal and coexistence rules of each workcamp, including:- Accept the indications of the responsible staff for each activity.- Meet schedules.- Do not use private vehicles for the duration of the workcamp.- Do not consume alcohol or/and illegal drugs.- No outsiders are allowed in the workcamp.7- Active participation and generous collaboration, help fellow volunteers and contribute value that enrich the group. The non-acceptance or non-compliance with established rules may result in immediate expulsion from the workcamp.

Workcamps are a way of approaching the voluntary work, mainly from the coexistence in a group of youth involved in a project of social dimension.Participants are usually young people from different countries or regions, therefore coexistence is based on mutual respect and non-discrimination for ideas and beliefs on sex, race or social origin.Participation is entirely voluntary, however, as in every group, there are rules to be met that must be known before the enrolment.
