The small country town, called Ljig, is nestled on the edge of mountain Rajac, in the area called Sumadija, in the heart of Serbia. It has about 5000 habitants and it is 85 km far from Belgrade, the capital of Serbia. Ljig is connected to Belgrade with one of the most important traffic arteries in Serbia and it is also one of the youngest thermal springs. The river, having the same name, flows through the town and it is a main concern of Society EKO SOKACE, which mission is to protect this river and keep the nature clean.
Work:
This year EKO SOKACE prepares a new action for saving our nature from contamination. Volunteers will construct places (boxes) for containers. According to the results of the previous camps there, we came to a conclusion, that some places near the river are constant dumps for local people. This year the local government started to recognize the problem, and they will put containers on those places on the bank of the river. The volunteers will make the brick walls (boxes) for the containers. Besides that, vols will organize a door-to-door campaign for the households on the mountain, about environmental issues.
Study Part:
Workshops and excursions about the cultural-historical characteristics of this area.
Accommodation:
The volunteers will be placed in the rented house in the town, which includes showers and full kitchen, so they will be able to prepare food by themselves. Many of senior associates will join this program, so the group will be familiarized with different branches, such as geography and biology. Free activities will be organized in addition, as agreed with volunteers during their stay in camp, according to their wishes.
Special Remarks:
Also one of free time activities will be going away on a funny rafting (www.kraljevo.com/veselispust/) on the river Ibar (130 km far away), which imply a participation of 50 euro. Organization EKO SOKACE expects you. Not accessible for wheelchairs.
« I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
