Centro de Promoção Social de Carvalhais (CPS) is a private social solidarity centre. Its main activities are professional training courses (Professional School for Youth and Adult Training Courses), organic agriculture projects, social support to elderly people and disadvantaged families, communitarian intervention and promotion of intercultural activities. All the work is based in partnership and networking with other local institutions. The main aim of the Centre is to promote local and sustainable development.
Info about the Camp:
The main aim of this workcamp is to innovate and renovate animation practices and activities, in both a holiday camp for children and a daily centre for elderly people, offering alternative and non-conventional activities that stimulate creativity, affording the opportunity of a different week; favouring art and intercultural experiences, as instruments and ways of expression (drama, moulding, music, dance, craft, recicl’art, etc), using each workcamp participants' abilities.
All the participants should be able to plan, organize and conduct animation workshops/dynamics, aimed to the children from the holiday camp, and to the elderly people from the daily centre (dynamic, adapting to the target-audience, materials, facilities, activities evaluation), as well as be of assistance in the audience (children and elderly people) daily activities. Meanwhile, the participants will be sharing with each other their own knowledge and experience. No special skills are required!
Another task is to select and organize information in order to develop a booklet, describing the activities developed during the workcamp. Its aim is for other leaders, in a near future, be able to learn, explore and use this knowledge in other similar activities.
Leisure activities:
During the workcamp, the participants will get to know the local landscape (mountains, river, and typical villages) and visit Viseu, a nearby city. Some of the dynamics, organized by the camp leaders, will promote the exchange of intercultural experiences in many different ways!
Accommodation/Food:
At a students residence, with shared bedrooms. Meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) will be held at a school canteen. Some of them will be shared with the children and/or the elderly people. All dinners are cooked by the participants, with the assistance of a staff person from the Centre. One dinner, during the workcamp, will be reserved for all the participants to cook typical meals from their own countries. Don’t forget to bring delicious recipes!
Location:
The workcamp will be held in a rural village called Carvalhais, located in a mountainous region, near São Pedro do Sul, Viseu.

Info about the Camp:
- Recovery of the Primary School - building and surrounding area. - Community Project / Solidarity Market - participation in the Solidarity Market (design of products/services). - Cultural Meeting - Realization of an intercultural meeting, following the underlying theme of poverty and social exclusion. - Workshops - These are proposals to strengthen and promote group cohesion, providing greater interaction and cooperation between all the participants, but also the sharing of knowledge and expertise. The aim is also to allow the workshops to outline the thrust of this field of work by addressing the issues and intervention.
Accommodation/Food:
Participants will sleep in 1 or 2 collective rooms, equipped with mattresses and pillows only. Participants will have to bring their sleeping bags. Food will be totally managed and cooked by the volunteers organized in teams (3 meals/day, breakfast, lunch and dinner).
Participants will have also to manage in teams to clean, organize and maintain the whole centre as a pleasant and clean place to live. General maintenance of the centre will be of the participants responsibility. There will be several groups that will take care of some tasks for the common good. The teams will be rotating and everybody should contribute and participate. If more teams are needed they can be created.
Associação Social Recreativa Juventude de Vila Fonche aims at developing social solidarity, youth integration as well as the inclusion of the ones that have fewer opportunities in our social life. We try to give better quality on the daoly life of young people and general population trough the most diverse social and cultural activities. Our main activities are Kindergarten; leisure time activities centre; Youth Centre (a space of information and activities), participation in the EU Youth in Action Programme (action 1.1, exchanges, action 2, EVS), youth programmes and activities to the community.
Info about the Camp:
The aims of the project will be to work together with the members of the association and local community in order to give better conditions of life to families facing poverty. The aim is give another “colour” to the life of families that will be chosen to work with according to their necessities.
Work:
according to the aim of the project the group will work in the houses of the families, indoors or outdoors according to their needs. The works will consist in painting, gardening, decorating (improvement), small construction work.
Leisure activities:
Visit to Viana do Castelo and some important villages of the district; visit to some traditional local festivals in Arcos de Valdevez and Ponte da Barca. Sport activities, fluvial beach, rafting, icebreaking games, group games, energizers, traditional parties.
Accommodation/Food:
Volunteers will stay in “Pousadinha” a kind of Youth Hostel that belongs to the organization. This building has a capacity to host 30 persons at the same time; it has 7 rooms, 8 bathrooms, kitchen, dinning room and living room. Breakfast, lunch and dinner will be prepared by the volunteers with the help of the young leaders and/or the cook. Volunteers have the opportunity to use Internet in the facilities of the organization.
Mandacaru is a social and cultural cooperative based in Coimbra, Portugal. It was created in 2004 by a group of social workers, artists and trainers interested in Social Inclusion, Active Youth Participation, Human Rights Education and Local Development in urban areas. Regarding the objectives of the workcamp, we want...
- to promote intercultural learning; - to organize pedagogical activities for children and young people; - to develop non-formal education methodologies; - to motivate for responsible and active participation; - to valorise the potential, creativity and dynamism of a group of young people from disadvantaged backgrounds; - to give to know other kinds of realities and forms of doing and working on social inclusion; - to improve the physical and human conditions of the living contexts in this suburb.
During the workcamp, the volunteers will work 6 hours/day maximum. In their leisure time, they will visit Coimbra and the region (Lousã, beach...) and they will share moments with young people and children of the place with whom we'll organise games and others activities.
Work tasks:
- Cleaning the meeting and playing room of the project. - Painting the room with drawings imagined and created by the participants and by the local children and young people. - Building seats, tables and other kind of furniture for the room. - Thematic workshops with local young people and children. - Leisure time activities with the children and young people of the neighbourhood, such as sports, cultural visits, team activities. - Organisation of a community event with the local population to inaugurate the renovated room.
Accommodation/Food:
Volunteers will be accommodated in a flat provided by the Municipality. Meals will be prepared by the volunteers with the help of the youth leaders. Limited access to internet.
MOJU – Associação Movimento Juvenil em Olhão/Olhão Youth Movement Association, is a local non-political youth organization, with members from 14 years of age and above. Their aim is to stimulate active participation of young people in society, to develop activities of intercultural, educational, social, sporting, recreational and environmental character, aiming at the self-development of young people in this region. MOJU promotes discussion and the dissemination of information and collaboration with public and private entities, about the needs and aspirations of youth. As well, international youth exchanges, trainings, conferences, seminars, and meetings with national and international youth organizations in order to achieve its objectives. Info about the Camp:
The camp will be dedicated to Graffiti culture. The aim of the project is to create awareness about the difference between Graffiti as an artistic form and 'tags'. The main task will be to identify the tags and clean them and to paint the walls, taking out the tags. Furthermore, we want to promote intercultural dialogue with Portuguese youngsters coming from socially disadvantaged neighbourhoods and to promote changes in their behaviour. The main activities are identifying the tags in the city, the walls that need to be restored and clean them, in order to give more visibility to the artistic graffitis. Participants will have group dynamics for group building (such as treasure hunt and cultural activities) and some visits to the nearby islands and to different cities in the Algarve region. During the evinings participants will have several leisure activities.
Accommodation/Food:
Participants will sleep in the gym of a school near MOJU’s office. We will provide bunk beds. We will serve 3 meals per day (breakfast, lunch and dinner). Transports for the islands and visits will be covered by the organization. During the workcamp participants will have access to internet.
Location:
Olhão is a fishing town near Faro, the capital of the Algarve region in the South coast of Portugal. Faro airport is 20 km away. Nowadays Olhäo is one of the most popular places in Portugal regarding the Graffiti culture.
