ProAtlântico (www.proatlantico.com) is a non-profit Youth organization, founded in 2001 and headquartered in Oeiras, district of Lisbon. It currently has over 1000 members and develops social, cultural, sports and recreation activities to children, youth, elderly and disabled people (e.g. holiday camps, trips to the theatre, annual picnic, New Year's Eve), based on voluntary projects, realized by volunteers of the organization, from the Youth Voluntary Bank. The main objectives of ProAtlântico are to promote citizenship and active participation of young people through volunteering and provide people with economic and social disadvantages the access to leisure, cultural, recreational and sport activities, to promote their social inclusion. ProAtlântico develops European projects under the program of Youth in Action, in particular exchanges, seminars and the European Voluntary Service.
Info about the Camp:
The work camp aims to provide participants a unique experience in one of the most prestigious museums in the country in terms of Paleontology. The work camp also aims to promote the exchange of personal and cultural experiences, meet other socio-cultural realities that the City of Lourinhã offers to all persons and to visit cultural places. The activities proposed for the work camp will enable the experience of working in an excavation with one of the most respected groups of paleontologists in the country, allow the contact with paleontological findings with millions of years and to give the chance to the participants to know the main areas of work and exhibition of Museum of Lourinhã; show the working of the only lab existent in the country that prepares paleontological fossils in full-time basis. To meet these objectives is associated the work in the lab, in the excavations, in the museologic reserves and in the main hall of paleontology. During the camp the volunteers will work no more than 5 hours per day. The tasks to be undertaken by young people will pass through the inventory and storage of the museologic reserves, the cleaning and preparation of fossils, the monitoring of the exhibitions during the visiting periods, the divulgation of the Museum; the contact with several organisations of Lourinhã, in order to disseminate the history and culture for the most disadvantaged people.
Leisure activities:
The animation activities are planned to have a duration of 5 hours per day, but some changes can happen along the work camp if needed. The animation activities can be: cultural visits, meetings with artists, walks on foot, trips to the beach. The participants in the field may suggest activities for the enrichment of the work camp. Accommodation/Food:
The accommodation is placed on a ward. The lunch is served on a canteen. The breakfast and dinner will be made by the participants. During the international evenings the participants will have the chance to exchange gastronomic experiences.
The Association for Social and Community Development (YUPI) is located Famalicão, in the North of Portugal, and works with young people since 2007 on youth mobility, entrepreneurship, voluntarism and international cooperation. Info about the Camp:
This project aims to explore the knowledge of Alto das Eiras - fortified settlement from the Iron Age - in partnership with the team work of the Office of Archaeology of Vila Nova de Famalicão City Council (CMVNF), through the promotion of its research, conservation structures and disclosure of his originality. The diversified nature of the target audience it is designed this field, add an asset as it will further the sharing of knowledge and different cultural experiences. During the day the young participants will join the team work of the Office of Archaeology of CMVNF, participating in field and laboratory tasks. In the field they will develop excavation activities, design of structures, photography and structures conservation. In the laboratory, cleaning and materials cataloging. Will also be made visits to some of the most important archaeological sites in the region. To complement all this practical work will develop dynamic intercultural interaction and, not least, evaluation of all the teamwork developed.
Accommodation/Food:
We shall be staying at Julio Brandão School, in rooms where you will be provided with mattresses. Please bring your sleeping bag. (http://eb23juliobrandao.net/). Breakfast will be provided in the accommodation (school) prepared by the monitors and a team rotating between participants; lunch food will be provided by YUPI (light lunch consisting of sandwiches of various ingredients, energy bars, juice, water, fruit - snack due to heat). The association provides a snack after work in the afternoon to spare energy. Dinner will be provided in the accommodation and will be partly borne by the participants, with a view to promoting cultural exchange. Dinner will be a hot comforting meal.
The Social and Cultural Centre of Coriscada works with the aims of promoting social solidarity through the means of activities linked with Culture, Sports, Recreation, Urban Heritage Preservation, Archaeology and support for the development of youth activities and the progress in the town of Coriscada and in the city of Meda. Work:
Participants will do archaeological research, excavations, washing of materials, classification of materials found, and participate in a roundtable discussion on the promotion of Vale do Mouro region.
Leisure:
Visiting the region. It is intended that the activities are participatory and involve the local youth.

Building or tent options for the participants. Lunch and dinner will be provided by the hosts, the breakfast is prepared by the participants, (condiments provided by the institution).
Location:
The village of Coriscada is located in the Northern part of the Beira Alta region, in the municipality of Meda, District of Guarda. It is located at 30km from the Archaeological Park of the River Côa Valley, 16km from the medieval town of Trancoso and at 5km from the historical village of Marialva.
ACDR - Freixo de Numão Cultural, Sporting and Recreational Association, is a youth association whose main objectives are protecting and promoting regional cultural heritage. The objective of this programme is to give continuity to an archaeological research project and the desire to turn the archaeological site into a museum, which has been developed since 1980 with the permanent support of this association and the Portuguese Youth Institute.
Info about the Camp:
Tasks to be carried out in the camp will be of maintenance and restoration aiming at turning the archaeological site into a museum; methodological digging, with an archaeologist's help; soil riddling and floating aiming at collecting different elements (coals, seeds, bones, etc) for analysis; materials washing and labeling.
During the camp volunteers will work no longer than 6h/day.
Leisure Activities:
In their spare time volunteers will visit belvederes, a Museum, castles, historical villages (Marialva), Vale do Côa pre-historic engravings and the Douro Wine Region (UNESCO World Heritage site).
Accommodation/Food:
Volunteers will be accommodated at ACDR Youth Centre, composed of 2 dormitories and 8 rooms. Meals will be served in the youth centre restaurant.

Freixo de Numão is at 12 Km and 15 minutes by car from Vila Nova de Foz Côa, 90 Km from Guarda, 200km and 3 and a half hours by train from Porto and 400km and 6 hours by bus from Lisbon.
