The participants will help with the festivities during the celebration week (the first week). There will be nature labour workshops, a day convention, demonstrations and a cultural festival. Many tourists will visit the area during this week. Volunteers can help with activities of promotional, nature, hospitality and organisational activities and work in the nature fields.
The second week they do different activities of nature labour like cutting, dredging, pilling up the paths and haymaking. The cooperation with the local partner has been taking place since several years and they are always very supportive and looking forward to host you in their beautiful area.
ACCOMMODATION and FOOD:
Volunteers are expected to bring their own tent, airbed and sleeping bag. There are minimal sanitary facilities and volunteers should expect primitive accommodation in the middle of nature. The group will cook for themselves in a barn that is equipped with all cooking facilities.
LOCATION:
The ‘Drentsche Aa' area is a varied old cultural landscape, shaped by an age old interplay of agriculture and nature. The ‘Drentsche Aa' is also the name of the stream that meanders through this area and creates a typical landscape that is declared National Parc. It includes 16 authentic villages. In 2015 the National Parc has a celebration with different activities in de first week of July: ‘The week of the Drentsche Aa'. The partner is the Dutch State Forestry, commissioned by the Dutch government to manage a large part of the nature reserves in the Netherlands.
LEISURE:
Volunteers will discuss the recreational program together with the camp leaders. For example they can explore the area by bike, go swimming, visit the city of Groningen, Westerbork transit camp (where Anne Frank was prisoned) and other places in the Netherlands. The camp leaders will have some ideas, but of course it's possible for the volunteers to put forward their own ideas for this program! Leisure time will also be spent on the theme: "Go local, go loco!".
During this activity, the participants will interact with local partner organisations and communities, build capacities to live and work together with people from different cultures, share cultures and have fun!

During the international volunteer workcamp, Natuurmonumenten will select a variety of activities in the field of environmental protection. Heumensoord is a new area that the organisation protects and they would like to bring back the area tot its natural roots. This means that parts of sand need to be removed to recover the moorland and fens. A plant called vogelkers needs to be taken away as well. In the edges of the area, various bushes and branches need to be cut and garbage may be collected. Finally, the organisation will aim to selected sites where the beautiful flower bushes called rhodondenrons need to be protected.
The local volunteer at Natuurmonumenten, who has a great experience in international workcamps, aims to organise a one day activity to renovate a local natural playground. The theme “Go local, go Loco” will be organised here to have the opportunity to interact with the local community.
ACCOMMODATION and FOOD:
Volunteers need to bring a tent, airbed/mat and sleepingbag. The building of Natuurmonumnten has a kitchen, bathroom and toilets. An indoor area may be used for social activities in case of bad weather. Outdoor barbecue may be planned by the team.

Natuurmonumenten is the organisation for people that care about nature. While SIW has cooperated with the organisation in several locations, this year we will work together for the first time in the beautiful area of Heumensoord near the city of Nijmegen. Together with a hug network of volunteers, Natuurmonumenten protects environmental sites, precious landscapes and cultural heritage. They will then invite people to visit and experience these venues.
The city of Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands and it can be reached by a short bicycle ride from Heumenoord. The city, with its promenade at the river Waal, has several Roman buildings that are more than 500 years old.

Nijmegen is a student city which allows the participants to have a drink at a nice terrace or local bar or to go out dancing at a club. Participants may also choose to go for a bicycle ride in one of the beautiful natural sites in the area.

The volunteers will work in the area surrounding Twijzel, a small village in Friesland, known for its cultural-historic and blooming blue-grass landscapes and swamp forests. The participants will play an important role in the preservation of the flora and fauna of the area. Together with the state forest rangers participants will do different activities such as cutting, dredging and maintaining the paths.
Accomodation & food:
Volunteers will probably stay in small bungalows with 6 beds per bungalow. The group will cook together for themselves.

The creeks, washed out by the sea water, the marshes, the remaining part of the old sea dyke, the new sea dyke and the nature reserve all are the results of the flood. Participants together with forest rangers will also work on different activities in the maintenance of the surroundings such as cutting bushes and wood and maintaining the paths, look-outs and playground. It is expected of volunteers to be careful with equipment and bicycles etc. Work will be mostly carried out outdoors.

In the area of Ouwerkerk, province of Zeeland. Four concrete mega-structures in the old sea dyke near Ouwerkerk in Zeeland, the Phoenix caissons, tell the story of the big flood that took the Netherlands by surprise during the night of February 1st 1953, with devastating consequences. This disaster took the lives of 1836 people and forever changed the landscape of the province of Zeeland. The ‘Watersnood’ (Flood) museum in Ouwerkerk, located in the four caissons that closed off the last breach in the dykes of the south-westerly part of the Netherlands and the campsite ‘De vierbannen’ and restaurant ‘De Vierbannen’ are the partners of this project.
