PLACE/PROJECT:Kaunas schoolchildren's Environmental Center is a non-formal education school for children. The main activity of the school is additional, extracurricular training. The center has developed and implemented key and individual activities for young people. This project is a good educational base for nature lovers. The center has three educational greenhouses, a "living corner", large hothouse, fruit and ornamental plant collections.
POSSIBLE TASKS FOR VOLUNTEERS:
•Mowing of the area; •Supervision during educational collections of plants and their formation (irrigation, weeding, clipping); •Seed collecting; •Ornamental tree-forming;•Volunteers will also help in repairing the school's classes, cleaning and painting windows, doors, carry out other minor repairs.
ACCOMMODATION/FOOD:
Boarding in the building of the Environmental center. Sleeping mattresses provided. Cooking is done by volunteers themselves. Toilet and shower inside the building.
LEISURE TIME:
Volunteers will have possibilities to visit museums, historical places in Kaunas, ethnographic museum in Rumšiskes. Excursions to Vilnius are possible.

The distance from Kaunas city centre to Environmental Center is 5 km.Kaunas is the second largest city in Lithuania and the fourth in the Baltic states. It is situated in the center of the country. Kaunas is 100 km away from Vilnius and 200 km from Sea port Klaipeda.

WHAT TO BRING:
Sleeping bags, long-sleeved clothes; trousers; rain gear; anti mosquito cream; music instruments (if you can and wish to make the evenings more fun); tapes; CD's; your national games and recipes; songs; dances; ideas how to spend leisure time; swimming things; waterproofed shoes.

PROJECT:Kaunas Botanical Garden occupies the territory of 62.5 hectares. Approximately 7.000 different plants comprise the collections and expositions that are open for public attendance and cover the area of about 30 ha. The number of visitors is 40.000 per year.Large collections of plants that are gathered in VDU Kaunas Botanical Garden are invaluable treasures of Lithuania. The Botanical Garden together with its botanical expositions and collections, the Greenhouse, a big park and an interesting pond system has a big potential not only for plant research but also for all modern forms of interactive education, cultural tourism and community use.

Weeding flowers, grass removal from paths, sweeping paths, flower maintenance, grass cutting and mowing, planting and watering, pond cleaning, the island house (space) handling, fence painting.
