Volunteers will collaborate with Legambiente at the restoration of a path starting from the Sassi/UNESCO area and going to the Natural Park. They will also collaborate at the environmental protection of the park and at fire prevention activities.
Accomodation & food:
Volunteers will be hosted in an old farm called Zagarella, the cultural centre of Legambiente.
Language:
English will be the official language in the camp.
Volunteers will actively take part in manual activities such as repairing fences, restoring existing pathways as well as placing signals and information notices along them, cleaning up the cave and constructing wood stairs.
Accomodation & food:
Volunteers will be hosted in the Permanazzoni resort/refuge inside the park of Cava Ispica. The refuge is provided with a well-equipped kitchen and bathrooms with showers. It is possible to camp and cook outside the resort.
Language:
English will be the official language of the work camp.

International Airport Catania Fontanarossa / It is possible to reach Modica by train from Siracusa Railways Station or by bus (AST line) directly from the Airport.
Location & leisure:
Cava Ispica can be considered as a 13 km long natural canyon. It is located in the South-East of Sicily, nearby the small towns of Modica, Rosolini and Ispica. The canyon is crossed by two torrents, the Pernamazzoni and the Busaitone.
The summer project will take place partly in Fossoli concentration camp, which was used to gather all Jewish and political prisoners in Italy before sending them to Auschwitz, mostly. Volunteers will be involved in some maintenance work in the concentration camp, which will be completed with a study part focused on the concentration camp, and the way the memory of this places and events are kept alive by local volunteers and by the foundation which manages the place. Particular focus will be given to the train of Memory to Auschwitz organized yearly with schools in January. The second part of the project will take place in on the hills of Palagano, where the Resistance movement took place in the period between 1943-1945. Volunteers will clean some commemorative gravestones which remembers the events of civil resistance against fascist /nazi troops in the area.Volunteers will also have the opportunity to meet survivors and witnesses of that events.
Accomodation & food:
Volunteers will be lodged in a school and in one of the building of the camp.
Requirements:
Specific interest in the subject to be shown by the motivation in the application and by means of a specific motivation letter.
The volunteers will be involved in all the activities of the farm: sowing seeds, planting, gathering fruits and vegetables, getting rid of the slugs, making conserves, soap, bread, working with wood, do some reconstruction works on the old house. It will also be possible to lead games with children and go to the local market to sell the goods produced on the farm.
ACCOMMODATION:
The volunteers will be hosted in a room on the farm. There will be beds, but sleeping bags are necessary. There are three bathrooms with showers and an outdoor shower working on solar energy. Cooking will be done by the volunteers. The food will mostly be vegetarian.
Sicily is one of the most beautiful regions in Italy. In the past years it has been sadly known for the region where ‘mafia’ was originated. Now the things are changing. The volunteers will be involved in a project of renovation of a confiscated mafia house. The work of maintenance will involve painting the walls of the house, gardening and clearing the vegetation around the property. Furthermore during the work camp the volunteer will participate to the activities of the hosting association with kids. You will work with local children coming from disadvantaged area of the city of Palermo in order to give them the possibility to have a great time and an intercultural experience. Please bring musical instruments from your countries, music, games and everything you would like to share. Moreover, as the work camp is organized within the framework of the European Year of Volunteering 2011(EYV) the volunteers will have the possibility of participating to activities and event aimed to promote the year of volunteering amongst Italian.
ACCOMODATION AND FOOD:
Accomodation The volunteers will be accomodated in a mafia confiscated house. Meals will be prepared as a group.
LOCATION & LEISURE ACTIVITY:
Palermo, the biggest city in Sicily, is one of the oldest and more suggestive cities in Italy. Full of culture and history is situated on the northwest of the island, right on the beach in front of a beautiful gulf. The province around is full of some of the most important historical monuments of ancient Italy and the region is naturalistically very suggestive.
Volunteers will work in the Necropolis of Pantalica and in the site of Sortino. They will be involved in restoring, cleaning and placing as well as renovating signals along some old paths.

Volunteers will be hosted in a municipal structure called Hermitage of Santa Sofia.
