The summer project will take place partly in Fossoli concentration camp, which was used to gather all Jewish and political prisoners in Italy before sending them to Auschwitz, mostly. Volunteers will be involved in some maintenance work in the concentration camp, which will be completed with a study part focused on the concentration camp, and the way the memory of this places and events are kept alive by local volunteers and by the foundation which manages the place. Particular focus will be given to the train of Memory to Auschwitz organized yearly with schools in January. The second part of the project will take place in on the hills of Palagano, where the Resistance movement took place in the period between 1943-1945. Volunteers will clean some commemorative gravestones which remembers the events of civil resistance against fascist /nazi troops in the area.Volunteers will also have the opportunity to meet survivors and witnesses of that events.
Accomodation & food:
Volunteers will be lodged in a school and in one of the building of the camp.

CENTRO ASTALLI SUD Centro Astalli Sud is a no profit organization providing first aid and accommodation for immigrants, refugees and asylum seekers at their arrival on Italian territory. It born thanks to commitment of citizens sensitized by the growth of immigration phenomena in the area of Napolitan province. At the moment Centro Astalli Sud is made up of a dormitory for immigrants looking for a first accommodation and different services are provided such us a lawyer, doctor and a cultural mediator are at disposal of those who need any help. Thanks to the help of volunteers who decided to spend part of their free time as cooking at the center, food is provided every evening for the hosts and all those who need.
The workcamp is set in the frame of a local project called "Centro delle Diversità". This project foresees, during all the year, intercultural activities and events (festival, seminar, meetings) in order to present to children, youngsters and local population culture and traditions from four continents . Thanks to the camp we will start to work on Africa. Volunteers will help to provide the center with useful matierial about Africa to show in the futere to children and in ordet to introduce them to African traditions and culture. They will create games, stories, videos or poster representing Africa according to their skills and knowledge of the continent. The camp is open to African or Africa originary volunteers and all those have any clue or want to learn about African culture. All can help with their creativity and intercultural points of view.
Volunteers will work an average of 6 hours per day, including less structured group work. Volunteers will have two free days per week in which cultural trip and excursions are provided. The volunteers will have the opportunity to get to know the local culture better, to meet families and to try local food. They can bring photos, painting, dresses, toys, games and everything they think can be useful for the activities.
ACCOMODATION AND FOOD:
Volunteers will sleep in “Centro Astalli Sud” bedrooms. Showers and simple facilities are provided. Volunteers must feel comfortable sharing co-ed accommodation with little privacy. Bring a sleeping Bag. They will cook by themselves using kitchen in the center.

Grumo Nevano is situated in the Northern province of Naples. It is well linked with Naples and Caserta. Naples, the most important city in the Campania Region is also one of the biggest city in the South of Italy. Naples historical centre was listed by UNESCO in 1995 as a World Heritage site. It is also famous for the “pizza”, the “caffè” (coffee) and for its wonderful landscapes. The Gulf of Naples, with its island as Capri, Ischia and Procida, is famous for its beauty all over the world. The coast is very important for tourism and historical sites. Among the most known cities: Sorrento, Amalfi, Pompei, Ercolano and the Vesuvio. Caserta is well known for its royal castle, the “ Reggia di Caserta”, projected by Vanvitelli along the same lines as Versailles’ castle. Rich of shops, Caserta is a good place for shopping and free time. Free time will be dedicated to visit beautiful local resorts and the most particular sites of Naples and Caserta. You can coordinate the evenings and leisure activities sharing the wills, depending on local possibilities and the means with the support of the leaders, including visits to historical sites, outings at night, market places, etc
