Volunteers will mainly help in planned activities, supporting the press office, artistic direction, organizational set-up, info-points and more. They will participate in the everyday life of the Festival, attending the events and having free access to the backstage.
Accomodation & food:
Volunteers will sleep in small apartments (4 people each) provided by the organization. The apartments are a dependence managed by Hilton Hotel in Giardini Naxos (neighborhood of Recanati), 15 mins far from Taormina by bus. They will cook by themselves, as the Organization will provide grocery shopping. Private WCs and shower with warm water are available in each apartment.
Location & leisure:
here are three interesting and beautiful medieval villages in the surroundings of the farm: Castelmola, Savoca and the beautiful beach of Isola Bella. The Saracen village of Castelmola and the enchanting beach of Isola Bella are easily reachable by bus (check here: www.interbus.it ) or by feet in 30 mins. To get to Savoca, known for having been the set of the movie The Godfather, you have to take a bus from Taormina Bus Terminal.
Requirements:
Volunteers have to be interested in books, cinema and culture and very motivated to take part in all the activities: promotion, leafleting, conferences, info-point. Some knowledge of Italian can be helpful Project-related motivation is required to apply.
Volunteers will be taking care of maintenance of the rooms in Villa Bona, a wonderful historical villa of the 18th century surrounded by a big park, situated in Carignano. The work will include: the decoration of the walls, doors and windows; cleaning of the staircase and the wrought iron railings; cleaning the garden of the Villa. There will be also some maintenance work on wooden doors of the main church (Duomo di Carignano) built on 1757. Moreover the volunteers will make some gardening work in a club, called Barbo Merenderos , near the river Po and also restoring activities of some typical boat (barca a punta) that belong to that association. In June and some days of July, volunteers also will work with children (from 6 to 13 years old) in the summer camp of the village. For an amazing experience of exchange they could talk about their countries and also teach to the children typical songs or dances. The restoration of Villa Bona is being finalized to use the villa for public events by the committee and local organizations.
Accomodation & food:
In a building with beds, communal bathrooms with showers and hot water and a kitchen. Bedrooms are provided with 4 to 6 beds per room. The volunteers are responsible for the cleaning and cooking. The organisation covers the cost of the meals and also the materials for the work. Volunteers must be equipped with a sleeping bag (or sheets), pillowcase and towels.
Location & leisure:
The town of Carignano (8700 inhabitants) is situated on the left bank of the river Po approximately 20 Km from Torino and within the Regional Parco Fluviale (park of the river). Its centre is of typical piemontese style, characterized by an ancient core with medieval archways and a baroque cathedral. The towns surroundings offer sites of architectural and naturalistic interest, it is also possible to reach Torino easily, as there are frequent coaches to the city. During the free time there are many exciting things to do such as visit the open market of Carignano and take part in some local events. On the weekends it will be possible for the group to organise a visit to Turin (there is a bus to and from Turin), visiting the Egyptian museum, the cinema museum, MAO museum of oriental art, the Holy Shroud etc. The costs of the FREE TIMES activities are not covered by the project.
