Horány workcamp is realised with the co-operation of the Forest School Foundation (FSF) in Szentendre. (www.kokosz.hu/eia) Because Szentendre Island is an environmentally protected area, the public traffic is very rare to find. The athmosphere is very peaceful, it is more likely to hear birds singing than cars riding. We truly believe that working in nature has a positive outcome towards people to be more open-minded, tolerant and that they do not judge each other by any national, regional or cultural differences, they respect each other as persons.
Work:
The main work will be done in the Duna-Ipoly National Park. The work will consist of gardening, cutting wood, cleaning up the environment from possible garbage, taking part and/or making workshops on environmental topics. This will happen with the co-operation of the Forest Education Foundation, our project partner. The Duna-Ipoly National Park is located approximately 20 minutes on bicycle from the camp site. Volunteers will take a ride on bike every morning to reach the National Park where they will work 3 hours/day, so it is highly recommended that they know how to ride a bike.
Location:
The workcamp will be hosted at Szigetmonostor-Horány, on the Szentendre Island, by the shore of Dunakeszi. The camp site is only 40 kms away from Budapest. FSF has its camping site placed in Horány, almost inside of the forest, but very close to the Danube.
Accommodation:
Will be provided in the youth camp of FSF that can host up to 125 people. The volunteers will stay in wooden houses, with 4-8 beds. Bathroom and toilet facilities are available in a separate big hall. Volunteers will make themselves breakfast, lunch and dinner in a well-equiped kitchen in the camp site.
Leisure time activities:
As the camp site is located on the Szentendre Island, there are several opportunities for leisure time activities. The river bank of the River Danube is only 10 minutes away from the camp site and the island provides great location for excursions as well. The historical town of Visegrád and Szentendre are close to Horány and a visit is definitely worthy in the capital of Hungary, Budapest, which is only 40 kms away. The biggest music festival of Hungary, called Sziget Festival is also organised just after the workcamp.
Hosting fee:
There is a fee of 70 €uros to participate in this project, to be paid on arrival. The participation fee does not cover leisure time activities and excursions.
