It will be the 6th year that CiA organizes workamps in the area. In the previous years volunteers have participated in the renovation of the old prison of Oropos (later used as public school and now abandoned) in order to be transformed in the near future into a Museum and a Training Centre on Human Rights and Democracy, renovated playgrounds, participated in intercultural festivals, made public awareness campaigns for environmental issues, racism, human rights and democracy.
WORK:
Volunteers will help in the setting up and participate and perform in an intercultural music festival. There will be several workshops for the preparation of performances. Additionally the volunteers will have the chance to realise creative activities for children, such us: music, theatre games and anything else they are interested and able to realise. We are asking for very motivated volunteers with communicative skills that play music or juggle.
The local partner, Cultural Association of Oropos, hosting the project, decides on the priorities and the co-ordination of the work. Due to the nature of the programme the daily schedule will be flexible with an average of 5 hours per day (depends on festival days and hours), 6 days per week. C.i.A. is not responsible for any changes in the work.
ACCOMMODATION:
Volunteers will be hosted at the premises of the old prison of Oropos. Toilets, showers and cooking facilities are provided. Participants will prepare meals themselves, in shifts.
FREE TIME:
Visits to the most important sites of the area. Volunteers will also have the opportunity to see some of the cultural events organised in different parts of the area. Camp-leaders will organise free time activities in co-operation with the volunteers and the local partner. C.i.A does not cover free time activities expenses.
LOCATION:
Oropos is situated in Viotia region, on the Southern Euboean Gulf, in Attica.
« I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
