The volunteers will work closely together with the local volunteers and community workers who are in charge of the celebrations. You will be involved in the preparatory work that needs to be done: preparing the different areas, building infrastructure like stalls and tents as well as the medieval themed decoration of the town. During the festive days you will be involved in the different tasks to ensure a smooth course of events. After the celebration you will help dismantle everything again.

Volunteers will be accommodated in the local fire department. There is a room for training courses that will serve as your bedroom. Sanitary facilities and a kitchen are also available. Camp beds will be provided. Please bring your own sleeping bag.

: Moenchberg is located in the Bavarian part of the low mountain range and nature park called "Spessart", around 65km south-east of Frankfurt. It is considered a "Luftkurort" (climatic spa) and a popular touristic place in this region, not least because there are still a lot of medieval buildings and frame houses around as well as the historic city wall. In your free time you can go on trips and maybe take a guided tour at the local brewery, where a special beer for the anniversary is made. You can also relax at the public heated swimming pool with a scenic view.

Volunteers will often work in small teams together with locals, so volunteers who want to improve their German speaking skills are especially welcome.
You will help the organisers in all phases of the festival: The main tasks will be, on the first days, setting up the stage and the campground on the site of the festival, as well as the disassembly of the whole structure and surroundings on the last day. While the festival is running, the volunteers should be available to the organisation and will be ask to assist in different areas: bar, stage, organisation, catering etc. You will work closely with the local people from the association There is a fixed plan for the build-up of the festival, nevertheless the schedule will be adapted to the logistics of the event and you are expected to be patient and work autonomously within this plan. Volunteers should be flexible enough to work long and unusual hours i and enjoy music Speaking or understanding basic German will be a plus

You will stay at the local brewery It is a small and very basic accommodation not far from the festival site. The final ceremony afterwards for all the helpers of the festival will also take place there. During the festival food will be provided by the food stands throughout the day.

Pegnitz is a small town in Franconia, Bavaria, near Nuremberg. You can find medieval and historic buildings and churches in the centre of the city. The city is known for its beers: it has a long tradition in brewery and the locals are very proud of it. The Bavarian region, in which Pegnitz is located, is called Little Switzerland due to its beautiful surrounding that invites extended adventures and hiking trips in the region. There are all kinds of trails and possibilities to experience the unique nature.

This year the workcamp participants will be again helping out at the Celtic Festival in Nagold. Local clubs and associations will be participating in the festival and you will be helping them out with the preparations for music, dance and international food. On other days, you will work on various environmental tasks within the community of Nagold.

Nagold is situated in the beautiful Black Forest and has about 22,000 inhabitants. The youth centre, located in the inner city of Nagold, is a meeting point for young people aged 14-20. Beside many other possibilities to spend time in the youth centre you will find rooms and equipment to play music, to dance and make videos and plenty of other things to spend your leisure time. Trips to Stuttgart and Tuebingen, hiking in the Black Forest, horse riding, swimming and playing beach volleyball are only some of the possible activities. Local youth will be around at almost all times, so participants can look forward to getting in touch with them
During the first week you will help to prepare and run an international drumming festival for children, youngsters and families called "RAKATAK". It will be run on the 16th of July. In the previous years 7000 visitors were present at the festival. Your help will be needed to prepare, to run and afterwards to clean the site. Another task of this project will take place during the 2nd week in the youth club "Maxim". The main work will be designing the façade of the youth club. Your help will be also needed to renovate and maintain the building and its surrounding grounds, like painting inside or outside, digging, gardening in the climate garden or re/constructing. Please be prepared for hard physical work from time to time!

Fritzlar is one of the oldest towns from the Middle Ages in Germany, with a beautiful old town and several great timbered houses. Here you will have the possibility to help out with two different projects. The first one is the "Blaue Adler" (Blue Eagle) nature project. In this project you will be building nesting boxes, laying down piles of branches for hedgehogs and sowing wildflower seeds across the meadow for bees. You could also be making small repairs on the grounds of children's holiday camp taking place each year. The second project involves helping to prepare the Hessen tradition of Family Day in Fritzlar. The Hessian Family Day is a large event for both children and adults with a colourful mix of activities including interactive games, music, art and cooking activities. The camp will largely take place outside and you can even camp out on the outskirts of the city by the river, if you like. Besides this, there is a site trailer and a cooking station available.

You will be staying in the local youth centre (but can camp out in tents or tipis if you wish). Meals will be prepared and cooked together in groups.

Fritzlar has many great activities on offer and you will be staying in the youth centre, where you can make use of the table football. The youth centre is in the middle of the beautiful old town and you will also be able to get to know young people from the local area, who also hang out at the youth centre. Besides this there is a huge sports park nearby, where you can play football, hockey, basketball, beach volleyball, beach handball, table tennis, go bouldering, climbing, or even use the skatepark. The Eder-Auen adventure pool is only a few minutes away, as well as other places such as the multiplex cinema, bowling alley, riding school and cycle path to the Eder lake. In the surrounding area there are many hills and castles, including the Sababurg fairytale castle with the oldest animal park in Europe. You can also go on a trip to Kassel for "documenta 14", the largest exhibition for modern art in the world, or you could go to Frankfurt.

From 28th to 30th July 2017, the SOMMERHOPP nature and culture open-air festival will be taking place on the grounds of the Kulturherberge e.V. (Culture Hostel) - complete with live music, workshops, DJs, events for children and much much more. Your group will be helping with the preparation and design of the festival. Artists, craftsmen, acrobats, musicians and theatre instructors will all be working at the camp. The projects available include both renovation work to the house and garden and creative design work whilst setting up the festival. Besides this, you will be able to have a say in the organisational running of the festival and can train yourselves in the additional, voluntary workshops (such as acrobatics) or start your own band and have your own slot at the festival itself. Since the project is also a cultural exchange for young people, youth from the local area will be invited to the festival, who will also then take part in the creative workshops. After the festival you will work together to take down the equipment and tidy up. Workcamp participants are invited to work in different fields: Manual, artistically, pedagogical. During the youth camps, you will have contact with kids from diverse background and join their activities as well. You are requested to be prepared as "ambassador" of the peoples living in your country. It would be helpful to be prepared to offer your own workshop artistically, musically or athletically at home and bring lots of ideas. In addition all volunteers will have the chance to introduce their country in an open evening. You should gather ideas at home and bring material for creating this evening. Further information will be prepared after the placement in the workcamp. Beside the announced activities the volunteers will also need to take responsibility by leading groups of young campers in daily works like catering and cleaning
Study part:
The study part of this workcamp will be dominated mostly by the question about life between past and future, tradition and modernity, small-town-life and global correlations. Working on the "Himmelsfels", always encourage encounters between people from different cultures and diverse background.

To remember – to meet – to understand and to work for the future will be our guiding slogan in these two weeks. We will learn about the history of the concentration camp Dachau and other aspects of the Nationals Socialism in Germany. We will always ask: What did we learn about this? Where do we find racism, antisemitism and discrimination today? The program consists of different workshops, discussions with eye-witnesses and Holocaust survivors, guided tours through the Memorial Site, tours in Dachau and Munich, day trips. There is also time for personal conversation, sports, parties and the chance to experience the historical sites from at the present time.

Accommodation is at the Dachau Youth Guest House in rooms for four people. The participation fee includes: full board and lodging, together with the cost incurred by the program.
