Work: Firstly, vols will work for three days in a reception centre for refugees and asylum seekers. Vols will take part in cleaning and maintenance work at the centre and its surroundings in co-operation with the inhabitants. After that vols will help to set up the festival area including building and taking down tents, setting up stalls, decorating the festival area, etc. Location: Helsinki is capital city of Finland Partner: World village is an annual festival which supports multiculturalism, international solidarity and development co-operation through music and exhibitions. The event is organized by KEPA (Service Centre for Development Cooperation in Finland). More info www.worldvillage.fi Requirements: It is not possible to accept disabled or participants with children Accomodation and food: Vols will probably stay on a small island in an old house which is maintained by a small ecological association. The accommodation is simple, there's no running water or showers. Vols can use a sauna building for washing.
Work: Provinssirock is one of the biggest rock festivals in Finland and has been organised since 1979. The actual festival takes place in 18.-20.6 in beautiful area of Tornavansaari. Festival is organised by local music association. The working days are set from Monday to Friday for about 8 hours each day. However, to replace these days we will organise free time for you during the week, so that you will be able to take trips to the nearby cities and towns. The work is mostly building the festival area (putting up fences and tents), cleaning and decorating the vip-sections, catering, building roadside signs and spreading posters etc. And of course by the end of the festival weekend we have to tear everything down. It means that the work is hard physical work. Location: Seinajoki (population is 57 000) is cultural center in west of Finland known for the architecture of Alvar Aalto. Requirements: Nearest terminal : Seinajoki. You can fly to Helsinki (350 km), Tampere (180 km) or Vaasa (80 km) and then take a bus or train directly to Seinajoki. Accomodation and food: During the camp you will stay in a building which is actually a rock club, there is a kitchen, toilets and a shower. The camp is self-catering the host will offer ingredients for volunteers to cook breakfast, lunch and dinner in turns.
The cultural youth centre of Rauma works actively with cultural and intercultural issues organising events, campaigns and workshops. The themes of the work camp are short film producing and culture producing issues. Volunteers will also become acquainted with ancient technology and eco art as well as have a work shop on photography. The camps will also assist in producing a small Finnish rock festival by doing some practical work and documentary. Issues like human rights and racism and tackled by the means of media education.
Accommodation:
During the camp our headquarters will be in Rauma but we will stay overnight in other places as well so the volunteers will need a sleeping bag. There will be also visits to local sights, meetings with locals and all the volunteers are expected to cook their national food one evening !!
Location:
In Rauma we have about 40 000 inhabaitants, www.oldrauma.fi. Rauma is located in western Finland between Turku (100km) and Pori (50km).
Terminal:
Rauma bus station. The best way to come here is by bus. It is about 300km from Helsinki to Rauma and there are direct buses. The nearest airport and train station is in Pori, 50km from Rauma.
