The aim of the workcamp is to help create the best possible building festival.
Week 1:
The week starts with two introduction days followed by a day of helping out at a wedding party on Friday 3rd July. It is two of our friends who are getting married, so fancy clothes are not expected. This week we will be setting up the festival by sorting wood, moving stuff around and making signs and decoration for the festival. You will also be working in the building area, bar, outdoor kitchen, dishwashing area, toilets sleeping area and the music stage. This week we take shifts in cooking for each other.
Week 2:
In this week, we are hosting the festival. Shifts include: "check-in zone", "kitchen", "kids zone" and "tool shop." We also need one or two volunteers to work with taking photos, videos and making Social Media posts. Note that all festival guests are also assigned to minimum one volunteer shift (bar shifts, kitchen shifts, toilet maintenance and cleaning shifts), as the concept is a co-creating festival.
Week 3:
In this week, we are taking the festival apart, save stuff for next years festival and cleaning up the festival area. Further, we are making evaluations on the workcamp stay and the festival in general.
Accomodation & food:
Everyone should bring a minimum a sleeping bag and a pillow. We have new bamboo toothbrushes, toothpaste and shampoo available here. Please also bring appropriate working shoes and clothes both indoor and outdoor - the style does not matter. We recommend that you bring your own tent. We will try to get tents for everyone who wants one but we can't make promises before we know how many need one. From experience we know that some people might not want to stay in tents due to temperatures (normally ranges 10-25 degree celsius, with few days of heavy winds). Therefore, there will also be an option to borrow a mattress and sleep inside in a big room with others. We have washing machines, kitchen facilities, toilets and showers. We encourage everyone to swim at the beach located a few hundred meters away.Everyone will take part in cooking, according to a plan we decide on together, as part of the work you will do during your stay. During the festival, we will have food served three times a day (all vegan/ vegetarian). We all clean together.
Location & leisure:
We are located by the sea (with our own sandy beach), in the countryside, but only five kilometres from Ebeltoft – a lovely small city known as a great tourist destination. In your spare time, we have many things to do or see, and you can borrow a bike to explore the surrounding area. Some days it might be possible to borrow a car to take a trip, maybe to see Mols National Park or Denmarks second-largest city, Aarhus (45 minutes away by car).

Youth Island is open, but it is far from finished. On this camp, we continue already started projects, start some new ones and hopefully end most of them all. We will be building constructions like a floating sauna, an upcycled hot tub, upcycled flowerbeds, a pizza oven and perhaps much more. We will also be renovating parts of the old fortress, so the island can be even better for other youths to come and use. Thus, we can promise you lots of practical experience, knowledge of building techniques and space for unfolding your creativity. We do everything we can to build environmentally friendly using natural materials or upcycling used ones #LeaveNoTrace
Accomodation & food:

In case of bad weather, we do have plenty of indoor spaces and facilities that we can use.We will be sleeping outside in tents. Because we have plenty that you can borrow. There are lots of new restrooms and baths, we even have a washing machine. We will be cooking together in smaller teams in our communal kitchen. Do you have any allergies or preferences, just let us know before arrival? There will always be vegan options. 2 times a week a small group of us swill sail to Copenhagen to do grocery shopping.Last, but not least, there is WIFI available.

We need your help to build the festival and take it down, therefore you will work before and after the festival. The festival lasts from 30th July to 1rst August where you will have the days off to enjoy it. You will be part of a team of volunteers building the festival. It is manual work and it will be an advantage with knowledge of tools, but it is not required.Your tasks will change from day to day, where you might help set up a stage one day, build a bar the next or carry fences. A team leader will instruct you on what to do.All volunteers on our production team meet at 10 am every day and work until 6 pm. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are provided on workdays. During the festival, you will be given three food vouchers each day, which you can use in our main food stand to get a meal. Our production team is unlike any other team in Alive Festival. Volunteers work together for a longer period and the spirit when building the festival is very cheery and exciting among the hard work. Many of our volunteers are returning each year to help set up the festival and they know everything there is to know about Thisted and Alive Festival.
Accomodation & food:
Sleeping facilities:Volunteers bring their own tents, mattresses and sleeping bags. There will be toilets installed at the camping area and bath facilities, but it is also possible to use the bath and toilet in a building known as URT.We are currently looking for other accommodation possibilities and we hope to find another solution for the volunteers in 2020. But as it is now it will be in tents – true festival style!Kitchen + bathroom facilities:In URT we have a common room, where breakfast, lunch and dinner are served during the days you are working. In the evening, when all the work is done, you can stay in the common room if you want to play a board game or just to relax for a bit.Our kitchen facilities will be preoccupied as soon as we start building the festival, so it will not be possible to cook for yourselves. During the festival, the food will not be served, though you will receive food vouchers.
Location & leisure:
Alive Festival is located in Thisted, a small town in an area known for its national park essential for long walks and exploration. Not far from Thisted you will find the west coast also known as Cold Hawaii, famous for its surfing facilities. The beach, wild nature and charming surrounding towns are essential for summer vacations.
Requirements:
For security reasons, we can unfortunately not have volunteers with hearing or sight disabilities. For other physical disabilities, it depends on whether the volunteer can do manual work for several hours since the work is about construction and is very physical.

Please be prepared for practical work. This year we will focus on finishing the work on our Off-Grid House. You can read about the project on Facebook and our homepage In the middle of our ‘'park garden,'' we have allocated an area for organic gardening. You should expect to be outside every day and work with garden tools and building up parts of the area. This could be done by making flower beds for herbs and flowers, by building water channels for watering, or by digging a chamber in the ground for keeping vegetables during winter. THEREFORE, it is garden work - all done in a sustainable way, using nature, for nature! The area of the new ‘organic herb world' is approximately 1000 square meters. We believe in being very aware, green and organic in our thoughts and talks, and in your way of living at the school. There will be a lot of different jobs to do with this focus. It could be making outside showers, heated with energy from the sun, or finishing a steam bath. There is always maintenance to do on former Work Camp projects You should be prepared that all project we do will be focusing on environmental and green solutions. During camp, we will take time to debate sustainability - not only as an environmental issue but also on all levels - including sustainability among people and cultures.
Accomodation & food:
Sleeping facilities: You should expect to stay in a tented camp in the middle of our garden. It will also be possible to stay in some of the dorms and rooms if they are available. Kitchen + bathroom facilities: You will have full access to the showers and toilets at the school for all three weeks. The food is mainly organic and is served three times a day by our kitchen staff. You should expect to assist after dinner, by cleaning the dishes. In the weekends, you will take part in cooking the dinner. Let us know if you are vegetarian.
Location & leisure:
Brenderup is located on the island Fyn in the southern part of Denmark. The village Brenderup (2.000 inhabitants) is close to the beach, forests and idyllic countryside. You will have free access to our different workshops during the camp, including recycling design, music, art and gym workshops. There is wireless internet at the school. Bicycles can be rented for the whole stay.

« I had not appreciated that so few people come out in the East Asian countries that my telling them was something extraordinary. This was also the most interesting aspect of the workcamp in terms of trying to expand the awareness of other ways of living, and there was never any hostility or problems because of it. »
