Location: The workcamp will take place in Vienna from August 1st – 22nd. Work: We will renovate a part of a famous public park located in the centre of Vienna. For example we will plant trees and creating a sculpture. The work will start on Monday 2nd of August. We will work five days a week, approximately six hours a day. Apart from our work, the volunteers can participate in different creative workshops. Moreover, you will include handicapped people either in work or in free time activities. We want to offer them the possibility to get to know people from all over the world. In this way we want to set an example of integration. At the end of the workcamp we will try to organize a festival including the official inauguration of the garden.Accommodation: We will be hosted in a youth centre in Vienna. 5er Haus, Grünwaldgasse 4, 1050 Wien. We will cook for ourselves. (Please inform us whether you require a special diet or vegetarian.) Things to bring with you: You need to bring with you a sleeping bag and mats (we will sleep on the floor), working clothes, working shoes, raincoat, swimming suit, sun protection. If you require any medicaments (e.g. because of an allergy), don’t forget to bring them with you. Your accommodation, food and travel costs to the work (within Vienna) are covered – however, we recommend you to bring some pocket money: The currency used in Austria is Euros. Furthermore we invite you to bring typical food, spices, drinks, games and music from your country (for an intercultural evening) – and a lot of motivation! Insurance: During the workcamp we will only have insurance for accidents. Location: The workcamp will take place in Eschenau close to St. Pölten. Work: We will work with children from homeless families. We will help to renovate the house where they are living. We will show the children different cultures with international games, etc. We will work five days a week but we will also make excursions with the children on the weekend. Accomodation: We will be hosted in the “Kinderbauernhof (childrensfarm www.kinderbauernhof.at)” where the children also stay. We will cook for ourselves. (Please inform us whether you require a special diet or vegetarian.)Things to bring with you: You need to bring with you a sleeping bag but we have beds for everybody, we don’t sleep on the floor!!! Location: Austria/Upper Austria/Alberndorf in der Riedmark; The workcamp will take place in Alberndorf, which is a village in the north of Austria, next to the Czech boarder near to Linz. Alberndorf is a village with about 4000 inhabitants. Many regional activities are organized by clubs and small associations. Several of them want to invite us for some spare time activities and you can get an impression of the local culture. On 15th August, there is the “Kirtag”, which is a kind of traditional festival or fair.
Work:
We will renovate an old stonewall. Stonewalls are important for biodiversity and they are part of the traditional landscape in this region. We will work together with local volunteers. So there will be a lot of contact to local people during the work. The whole camp will be integrative, that means, that we live and work together with mentally disabled persons. Work will start on Monday 2nd of August. We will work five days a week, approximately six hours a day. The stonewall is part of a local hiking path and will deal with the topic “Walls and Boarders”. Some activities will be also about this topic (planning is in progress).
Other activities:
There are several activities planned for the camp. On one Saturday we will visit Linz (European Capital of Culture 2009), which is the capital city of the federal state. There will be also some tours in the local region, e.g. hiking, visiting farms, (is still in planning)On 18th of August an inter-cultural evening is planned. We will invite the local people and the volunteers should present their country or home. If volunteers want to prepare food, this would be most welcomed.
Accommodation:
elementary school, lavatories, kitchen, beds (sleeping bags are NOT necessary)
Terminal:
The closest airport is in Linz, which is half an hour away. But it´s also no problem to fly to Vienna or Salzburg and then getting a train to Linz. (Bus from Linz to Alberndorf)
