We will work together with the institution “Lebenshilfe” (Life Help) which works mainly with people with physical and mental disabilities (clients). We will work 4 hours a day (2 in the morning and 2 in the afternoon), 5 days a week. One of the tasks will be to work with 7-8 clients from Lebenshilfe organizing (working & free time) activities. Another task will be to work together with the clients and do some renovation/gardening in the neighbourhood (like planting herb spirals and raised beds). During the camp we will try to include the local community as well, so that they participate in making their home place more beautiful.
Accommodation:
We will be hosted in a school in Straden. Things to bring with you: You need to bring with you a sleeping bag (we have mats in the house), working clothes, working shoes, raincoat, swimming suit, sun protection. If you require any medicaments (e.g. because of an allergy), don’t forget to bring them with you. We will cook for ourselves. Please inform us whether you require a special diet or are vegetarian. Your accommodation and food are covered – however, we recommend you to bring some pocket money.
Leisure:
In your free time you have the opportunity to explore the region and make excursions to nearby places of interest. Straden is situated in the countryside of south-eastern Austria.
« I can say that the best things about the workcamp and this whole experience were the chance of making a real difference to the lives of very needy children. This is an extremely valuable project where volunteers can have a massive impact. Also the possibility of learning a huge amount about a country so different from our own. I learnt ten times as much by carrying out a workcamp than I would ever do backpacking. »
