Location: Austria/Upper Austria/Alberndorf in der Riedmark; The workcamp will take place in Alberndorf, which is a village in the north of Austria, next to the Czech boarder near to Linz. Alberndorf is a village with about 4000 inhabitants. Many regional activities are organized by clubs and small associations. Several of them want to invite us for some spare time activities and you can get an impression of the local culture. On 15th August, there is the “Kirtag”, which is a kind of traditional festival or fair.
Work:
We will renovate an old stonewall. Stonewalls are important for biodiversity and they are part of the traditional landscape in this region. We will work together with local volunteers. So there will be a lot of contact to local people during the work. The whole camp will be integrative, that means, that we live and work together with mentally disabled persons. Work will start on Monday 2nd of August. We will work five days a week, approximately six hours a day. The stonewall is part of a local hiking path and will deal with the topic “Walls and Boarders”. Some activities will be also about this topic (planning is in progress).
Other activities:
There are several activities planned for the camp. On one Saturday we will visit Linz (European Capital of Culture 2009), which is the capital city of the federal state. There will be also some tours in the local region, e.g. hiking, visiting farms, (is still in planning)On 18th of August an inter-cultural evening is planned. We will invite the local people and the volunteers should present their country or home. If volunteers want to prepare food, this would be most welcomed.
Accommodation:
elementary school, lavatories, kitchen, beds (sleeping bags are NOT necessary)
Terminal:
The closest airport is in Linz, which is half an hour away. But it´s also no problem to fly to Vienna or Salzburg and then getting a train to Linz. (Bus from Linz to Alberndorf)
