Xuan Thuy National Marine Park is 150 kms south-east of Ha Noi. The core zone of the park has a total area of 7,100 hectares. In 2003 Xuan Thuy Natural Reserve was approved as a national park. The park is considered to be a typical wetland ecosystem of national and international importance. In addition to a high bio-diversity, Xuan Thuy National Park is also known as an important platform for migratory birds including the black-faced spoonbill (on the most endangered list), and other important marine species and mangrove ecosystem. Many local projects are already implemented, such as planting mushrooms, raising bees to have honey, collecting and recycling rubbish.
Volunteers duties will include planting trees and building rubbish disposal units, with the local community. They will support the park staff in their daily work, such as researching and compiling reports, taking part in current projects and participating in social activities within the local community. They will also help organize workshops or campaigns to raise awareness about environmental protection and the parks ecological systems. Another duty is to assist in updating the website of the national park. Volunteers will also organise english classes for the local young people and the park staff. This is very important, because the park is a famous ecotourism destination, so there are many foreign visitors every year.
Objectives:
The volunteers are expected to raise awareness about environmental protection within the local community. They can try to find solutions about how to protect the ecosystem during their voluntary work. This is a chance for volunteers to practice what they have learnt from universities/ collages, and also an opportunity to explore the diversity of the mangrove forest. The park and SJ Vietnam hope that volunteers will have a valuable experience, and will campaign to raise awareness on environmen issues.
Accommodation & Food:
Volunteers can either stay with the local people or at the National Park guesthouse. It is recommended that they stay with the local communities, gaining a deeper understanding of the culture, and making friends with members of traditional Vietnamese families. Its worth noting that traditional values are still obvious in their daily rural lifes. The district is also very famous for seafood and tourism, so volunteers can discover in their free time.
Leisure activities:
Volunteers can enjoy the rich nature of the park and the region. There is also biking, sailing and bird watching. There are other famous tourist locations surrounding the area which also make good choices for volunteers at the weekend or in free time.

Volunteers will benefit from having a keen interest and knowledge of nature, birds, mangrove forests and agriculture. They will also need to be enthusiastic, patient, optimistic, and full of energy They will be expected to work hard and to be able to do manual work i.e. rice harvesting. They are expected to be proactive in making activities with the park staff, as well as local people. They should understand that sometimes there are a lot of duties, but they will also have lots of free time.
“Hold the Future” is a center for young disabled people, mainly from Ha Noi. They have disadvantaged and disabled conditions, and it is really difficult for them to find a job to earn a living. In this center they have training courses, and then work by themselves. Products from the center such as lacquer painting, embroidery, souvenirs, and postcards will be exported to many countries. The money gained from such products, help to pay their salaries. The center has two locations: the first one is for producing the aforementioned products, and the other is for gardening. At the second place they plant fruit trees, pot trees, decorative plants,and vegetables. They even feed fish, poultry etc. All products can be directly used by the participants but a small part is often sold to generate income. The center needs volunteers to join this project, in order to help the director who is also disabled. They can help with website management and PR activities to promote the center. The centre wishes to establish more relationships with similar international organizations, and the center hopes volunteers can help them in create new partnerships. Also they need to have support on designing new production samples, to strengthen and keep speed with competition from other companies. They need to have experts on horticulture as well, so they can investigate in gardening. It is important for the volunteer to be patient, enthusiastic, and hardworking during their time at the center. Experience in PR and designing fields is necessary for volunteers to have a great experience.

Volunteers will be full members of the SJ Vietnam organization. It is expected that volunteers who are at this position, will mainly work within the PR department. PR coordinators will be responsible for the volunteers, and guide them on their work. Volunteers will manage, update and hopefully improve the website of SJ V. They will join different projects in order to understand more about SJV activities and work with local volunteers. They will gather information, so they can update and write news articles promoting SJ V.

This is a long-term volunteer position to be a full member of the national and international SJ Vietnam organization. Volunteers are to assist SJ V's workcamp coordinators in the logistics of the projects program. The workcamp coordinators will have orientation days, to help guide volunteers, solve problems and generally manage the workcamp department. Volunteers will have training in managment skills, and set up a working schedule with the coordinators. They will help to run workcamps, build a working schedule for short-term volunteers, evaluate projects, update the info-sheets for workcamps, setup regulations and build future strategies for the workcamp department. This position also requires volunteers to promote the image of SJ Vietnam, and build a manual work template for the next volunteer who will be in the same position.

Learning how to be a workcamp co-ordinator, and thus helping the managment of the workcamp department. Setting up and having good relationships with partners, both locally and internationally. After working in this position, volunteers should gain strong managment skills.

Volunteers will work mainly in the office, and will be considered as a main staff member of SJ Vietnam. Volunteers will have working schedules given by long-term volunteer coordinators. Volunteers will help the coordinators manage the work of the long-term department, such as coordinating the relationships among long-term volunteers and SJ Vietnam staff, to ensure a good and friendly working environment. They will work with both local & international partners, to build strategies for the department’s development. Volunteers will take part in LTV meetings every thursday evening, and staff meetings every friday evening, with all the SJV staff to discuss the SJ V current projects. A report will be made every LTV meeting which will lead to the following weeks actions.
