This is a project that mainly focuses on the promotion the value of The Central Sector of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long – Hanoi and the importance of preservation activities through voluntary action and non-formal education. To achieve the project’s objectives, a group of international volunteers will work together for at least two weeks.
Work:
Volunteers will be expected to participate in some learning activities during the first week. Those activities include an orientation meeting, a tour around the site, and a seminar to exchange their knowledge about the site. After that, volunteers will come to local schools and talk with the students there about what they have learnt.
Why do we choose local pupils or students as the target group of the project? Since pupils and students are current and future generations of the country, they are open-minded, receptive, action-oriented, and peer-influenced. It is expected that by providing information to the students and the interaction between international volunteers and local students, it will be possible to have a direct and positive effect on those students’ mind in term of their responsibility for the protection and preservation of this new World Cultural Heritage site in Vietnam.
Here are main points summarized about the project:
1. Learning about The Central Sector of The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Hanoi
- Participating in an orientation meeting with an expert and a tour around the site,
- Presenting about what volunteers have learnt about the site after the visit,
- Discussing the ways to promote, protect and conserve this World Heritage site.
2. Preparing for workshops at local schools/colleges
- Agreeing on the content and the structure of workshops as well as the role of each volunteer in the workshops,
- Preparing materials needed.
3. Organizing workshops at local schools/colleges
- Exchanging information about The Central Sector of The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Hanoi
- Sharing information about WH issues by presenting about volunteers home countries’ WH sites
- Discussing how local people, particularly local students can help promote, protect, and preserve this WH site as an individual.

« The organisation of the camp community was fantastic! The group was great and we bonded quickly, language was always going to be a tricky one, but everyone attempted English and Indonesian so it made the whole experience fun and educational. »
