To speak the same language is one of the fastest ways for people to understand each other. English became a global language so it is important for people in Thailand to learn how to use it in order to communicate with people from other countries. We have been asked many times by international volunteers if Thailand is a poor country or not. The truth is that Thailand, especially in the south, is not poor but people here do not have opportunities to meet foreigners. Thus volunteers come here to destroy the shyness of Thai people to speak as sometimes in spite of having good knowledge of the English grammar they can not have even a simple conversation.
Aims:
I. Improve the local children English communication skills. II. Motivate Thai people (local villagers) to speak English. III. Learn a new culture through the improvement of their English.
Work:
Volunteers are expected to work as English teachers in a primary school. They can prepare their lessons by themselves but the teacher at the school can give advice. Volunteers will have access to the history report book which the last volunteers wrote with useful information. Work time will be Mon-Fri from 8.30 to 15.30. Weekends are free. If weekend camps are organised, volunteers will have Friday and mondat free instead.
May-September is the 1st semester, November-March is the 2nd semester, October is the 1st school vacation, April-May is the summer vacation.

« I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
