The workcamp is newly organized together with Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation since 2009. Hondao Senior Citizen Welfare Foundation was founded in 1995 and is dedicated to promote senior citizen’s welfare in Taiwan. The World Health Organisation established the concept of active ageing in 2002. Active ageing is the process of optimizing opportunities for health, participation and security in order to enhance quality of life as people age. Echo to this concept, Hondao has organized Grandpa and Grandma’s Vigor Show for two consecutive years. Up-to-now, 7,306 senior citizens and 276 communities have participated in this campaign.
Work:
The volunteers will support Hondao in executing the final contest of Grandpa and Grandma’s Vigor Show on 31 July 2010, including preparation, opening show, cleaning and other activities. These tasks will be shared with local volunteers.

Location:
Taichung City, the third biggest city in Taiwan, about 170km in southern Taipei. Hot in the summer.

Leisure activities:
Taichung City is located in the hub of central Taiwan. You can easily find the night market, thousands of restaurants, pubs… etc. If you want to embrace nature, you can go trekking in Dong-shih Forest Recreation Area or visit Shin-shou Township. If you like to discover the most charming small town, Lu-Kang is definitely your first choice.

Intergenerational workcamp - Elder care and youth exchange
The workcamp is organized together with Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation. Linbian is a rural township in western Ping-tung County, Taiwan. Aquaculture and agriculture are the two main industries here. On 8 August 2009, typhoon Morakot hit Taiwan and whole Linbian County was seriously damaged by floods. All houses and apple wax orchards were filled with mud. Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation which was founded in 1995 is dedicated to promote senior citizen’s welfare in Taiwan. After the typhoon, Hondao called 1,023 volunteers from island-wide and helped 57 households to clean the mud. On the way of life rebuilding, Hondao newly organized this workcamp aiming to promote variety of elderly care and bringing more youth into this work.
Work:
The volunteers will serve in the Community Care Station and organize some events like sing their country's songs, dances or making simple handicraft for local elderly for 1-3 hours a day. Volunteers will also help to clean and enhance the environmental conditions of the community.

At the Linbian Life Rebuild Centre. Please bring your sleeping bag.
Location:
Linbian Township, Ping-tung County. Driving from Kaohsiung City, the second largest city of Taiwan, takes about 1 hour. Hot in the summer.
Travel terminal:
Kaohsiung International Airport (2 hours by bus) or Tao-Yuan CKS International Airport (5 hours by bus or 2 hours by high speed train).
Leisure activities:
Linaian is a quiet rural township at night. You can swim in the sea with local people every morning. The second largest city, Kaohsiung, is only at one hour driving distance.

Intergenerational workcamp - Elder care and youth exchange
This workcamp is newly organized together with Hondao Senior Citizen’s Welfare Foundation since 2009. Sishih, located in the northern of Fusing Township, Chuang-Hua County, is an agricultural village in middle Taiwan. The main agricultural products are rice and broom. The specialty, broom, made from Kochia scoparia Schrad, was a very important economic product for the village people in the old times. The National Council on Ageing defines "intergenerational programs" as "activities or programs that increase cooperation, interaction or exchange between any two generations. They involve the sharing of skills, knowledge, or experience between old and young." The 2009 Sishih International Workcamp was a successful practice. We would like to keep promoting variety of elderly care and bringing more youth into this work.
Work:
The volunteers will serve in Sishih Community Care Centre and introduce their country's songs, dances or simple handwork making to local elderly for 1-3 hours a day. Volunteers will also learn how to make brooms to inherit this receding skill. Volunteers will also help to clean and enhance the environment of the community.

At the Sishih Community Centre. Please bring your sleeping bag.
Location:
Sishih village, Fusing Township, ChuangHua County, located in the middle of Taiwan. Driving from Taipei City takes about three hours. Hot in the summer.

Tao-Yuan CKS International Airport (3 hours by bus).
Leisure activities:
Sishih is a quiet village at night. It is only 5 minutes drive to the most famous historic small town in the country, Lu-Kang. If you are interested in clam fishing, seashore is 30 minutes driving distance. If you want to embrace mountain and nature, driving to Nan-tou takes only 1.5 hours.
