Work:
The main work of this workcamp is to help building more facilities in Asha Orphanage Home. This year we will help to make a compound wall and playground for the orphanage home children. Volunteers will take care of the orphanage children, play with them, teach sports, music, helping them to get ready to school and taking them back from school.
Food and Accommodation:
Will be arranged in the orphanage house. The orphanage house has space to accommodate 10-15 volunteers. A shower will be available at the camp house, but not the standard you are used to in your country. Nepalese daily food is Dal Bhat - Dal (soup of lentils or beans), Bhat (cooked rice), Tarkari (cooked vegetables), is provided. This is the staple diet of the Nepalese and it is eaten everyday. The camp leader will try to offer some different food but if you would like to enjoy your native meals please bring food from your own country. Volunteers will help to prepare meals in turns.
Travel:
All volunteers travel together from Kathmandu to the camp site (Pokhara). FFN will manage the group travelling to the workcamp place. Therefore volunteers need to arrive one day before the camp date. If volunteers come late, he or she will travel alone but FFN will help to catch the right transportation. A public bus takes about 7 hours to get to Pokhara.
Meeting Point:
FFN office in Thamel. We are sorry to mention that we can't pick up all volunteers at the airport due to entrance difficulties at the arrivals of Tribhuvan International airport in Katmandu. If volunteers stay at least one night in Hotel Encounter Nepal or Pilgrim Guest House they are agreed to pick up our volunteers in nominal cost (Rs 500/ Euro 6) and offer an economy room (Euro 6 to up depend on facility in the room). Therefore volunteers are requested to send their arrival information to us in time so that we can ask Hotel Encounter Nepal or Pilgrim Guest House to reserve a room and pick you up. « I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
