Volunteers will teach basic English in schools located in different parts of the country. There will be a maximum of 2 volunteers per school.
Working day/hours:
Saturday is holiday and Friday is half holiday in Nepal. Nepalese schools are open between 10am-4pm. Teaching volunteers will give 3-5 classes per day and each class lasts for 45 minutes.
Location:
In or around Kathmandu valley, Kaski (Pokhara), Tanhun, Lamjung, Chitwan, Makwanpur and Nawalparasi districts of Nepal.
Placement duration:
2-5 months.
When to start:
First Monday of each month.
Qualification:
Volunteers should be 18 or over. Relevant education training and skills are appreciated. Volunteers should above all have motivation, flexibility, and cooperative.
Pre-placement Preparation:
Volunteers will get an opportunity to participate in a 3 days orientation seminar at our training center in Kathmandu. The seminar aims to provide basic knowledge to participants on the educational system of Nepal, to give detailed information on the schools involved in this project, to provide a list of "Dos and Don’ts" issues, to give a basic introduction to the Nepali language, culture, dress habits, food etc. The orientation seminar will start on the first Monday of each month.
Accommodation and Food:
Most of the Medium Term Volunteers (MTV) will stay with Nepalese families near by the school. We have already listed our partner homestay families around project locations. Most of them have already hosted international volunteers. Staying with Nepali families is very interesting as volunteers will feel themselves members of their hosting family thus members of the local community as well. Nepali houses are simple, using very basic facilities (i.e. heating system, hot shower, toilet and bathroom, etc). Most families do not have HOT shower, but most of them have bathroom and toilet, please do not epect facilities like in your country! However volunteers will get their own single room and enough Nepali dalbhat food. There are two main meals in Nepal - a heavy breakfast around 9am and dinner around 7pm. Tea is very common, when you visit a family they use to welcome you with it!
Security:
All medium term projects are located in safe places. Now there is NO conflict in Nepal and even during the conflict period, Nepal was never dangerous for volunteers; we hosted several volunteers around the globe during that period.
Monitoring and evaluation:
Our MTV project coordinator will be in touch with all our MTVs. He will monitor all MTV projects while the volunteers are working and also organise a final evaluation meeting with them.
Hosting Fee:
Volunteers should pay 200 Euro as a registration fee to NIFC + a monthly contribution of 100 Euro. The fee covers a 3 days orientation seminar in Kathmandu, public transportation from Kathmandu to the placement location, food and accommodation + volunteer project support up to 50 Euro.
Volunteers will teach basic computer skills in 15 schools located in different parts of the country. There will be one volunteer per school.
