The first Workcamp in this area took place in 2008. There was a 2 year project called IIWC Cares Jogja, after the earth quake in 2006. Some programs such as emergency workcamps, NVDA special camp, Notebook Action, donation for rebuilding one kindergarten, donation for sport facilities in primary schools in and around this area has been done successfully. Recently one the schools visited by the workcamps, called SD Muhamadiyah Semoya would like to have more IVS activity for the students there. The spirit and motivation brought by workcamp volunteers are expected to raise the motivation of the students to study more for their future. There is a need to have international experiences for the students as well as the teacher to build more their knowledge and soft skills in terms of non-formal education approach combined with the formal education at the school. At the same time, it also offers the volunteers a chance to see the recovered area and results from the project that IIWC and other partners conducted from 2006 to 2008, after the earth quake (IIWC Cares Jogja Project). It also creates a good opportunity for volunteers to experience the local culture of Jogja which is not touristic.
The aims of the camp are:
1. The main idea is to offer the teacher. students of SD Muhamadiyah Semoya and volunteers a chance for cultural exchange and understanding. 2. Experience and exchange the local culture with your origin culture for global friendship. 3. « I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
