FEDA is based in Ksach Poy Village, near the city of Battambang in north-western Cambodia. Ksach Poy is a village of around 3,000 inhabitants, the majority of whom are young people. It lies on the bank of the River Sangker, about 10km south-east of Battambang. For the last 9 years FEDA made free supplementary education such as English classes, sport, music, art and traditional dances for young people and children from surrounding communities.
The villagers are rice farmers and the majority of them are poor:

Many families supplement their rice income by growing fruit and running other small enterprises such as trading stalls and ‘taxis’ offering transportation into town. All family members are commonly involved in some kind of work and children start helping out with the animals or crops from a very early age. « I would recommend participating in a workcamp, especially with VAP, who ensured that I found a project to suit me and provided essential training for me in preparation for my trip. Being part of a workcamp really is a life-changing experience, oh, and it looks great on your CV! »
