Development of land into farm use, and construction on farm buildings.Work; Agricultural; turning soil, weeding, gathering, and hauling, fellingtrees, composting, cutting firewood, using trees saws, shovels, axes,and other garden tools. Construction; building a large deck, gazebo, andouthouse. Volunteers will be nailing, moving materials, digging foundations,making beams and posts, using hand and power tools. We will gladly teachanyone basic construction skills. The work we do is varied. Each can find the type and level of work that is good for their own ability.STUDY THEME; To expose people to new ideas and new experiences to better understand themselves and the world they live in. Indoors kitchen and sleeping areas, mattresses, extra blankets, pillows provided. Rustic cabin/bunkhouse in the woods. Outdoor camping is an option. Separate male/female areas provided.
Location & leisure:
Oscarsfarm is located in the rural unpopulated region of Vermont known as The Northeast Kingdom. The closest town is West Burke, population 300. The geography is mountains, and rolling hills, valleys and farms. Very green and lush, dotted with streams, and lakes. Hiking, fishing, swimming, painting, drumming, berry picking, ceramics,candlemaking. Also we will have field trips to Montpelier, and Burlington, Vermont, and Boston Ma. We also have professional artists, and musicians coming to do workshops.
Requirements:
Sheets, or bedroll, or sleeping bag. Boots, raingear, towel, warm clothes. Musical instruments, art projects, songs, cultural activities, etc.
Harvesting, weeding and other garden tasks, in the community gardens. Helping prepare lunches and packaging rescued food. Participants must be flexible and willing, to help with all tasks.Study Theme: Bring information re hunger in your country

Accommodation will be sleeping on mattresses on the floor of a house. Bring sleeping bags. Food will be primarily vegetarian. Cooking will be shared by participants.
Location & leisure:
Eugene, Oregon. Eugene is a unique town with a population of about 150,000. It is known for being bicycle friendly, it s many small sustainable businesses, and residents with alternative lifestyle. Participants can be met at the airport in Eugene, with prior notice. There is also an AMTRAK and Greyhound bus station. Eugene is two hours south of Portland, Oregon, an hour to the coast, and an hour to the Cascade mountains.Leisure Activities: Biking along the river, visiting local market, a one-day trip outside of Eugene to mountains or coast will be organized. The final weekend is the annual Eugene Celebration including a parade, lots of music, films, art and good food
Requirements:
Will need to be able to ride a bicycle to and from work sites. No more than 10 mile/16km round trip, on level ground. Bicycles will be provided. Bring work boots and gloves.No smoking in house or at work sites. No drugs allowed.
