This project is organised together with the Kamakura Children's Home (KCH). Child abuse is a big and growing problem in Japan, with 30,000 cases reported last year. Volunteers will work at KCH preparing, running and cleaning up their traditional Obon summer festival (and do some kind of performance themselves too). Volunteers will also play and interact with the children, many of whom were previous victims of child abuse.
Accomodation:
In two rooms of a church - male/female separated. Sleeping bag required.
Location:
30km from Yokohama. Kamakura was an old capital city of Japan in the 13th-15th centuries and has many attractions like old temples, green hills and a beach.
Terminal:
Tokyo - 60 min by slow train
Special requirements:
Volunteers must be highly motivated to work for this issue and must be flexible and creative. Similar experience welcome! Motivation letter required. The group will be made up of 5 Japanese and 5 international volunteers.
