Zimbabwe Workcamps Association is a youth volunteer organization founded in October 1993. It is a non political, non sectarian, non religious, voluntary organization. Its membership is open to anyone above the age of sixteen years irrespective of nationality, gender, race, religion, political view or educational qualification. Zimbabwe Workcamps Association employs international voluntary services as a double aged sword namely education and community development. . Workcamps are proven developmental techniques aimed at encouraging local communities to do self-help projects, through the use of scarcely available resources in the raising of their socio-economic, cultural and physical standards of living. We strive to: - To assist with community development, - Encourage the concept of voluntary service as a force in the search for peace, equality and international understanding, - Enable young people to encounter and understand different cultures - Organize and run voluntary workcamps in Zimbabwe and in the region either independently or in collaboration with other voluntary organization or government departments. - To promote peace, democracy, social justice, volunteerism and exchange of information, skills and best shared practices.

The main project will be building new trails, repairing picnic sites as well as raking road side ditches in the national park. There are many possibilities for recreation, including hiking, canoeing and exploring in nature over the weekend.
Accommodation:
Tents, no shower.
Location:
Victoria Falls.
Language:
English.
Special Remarks:
Volunteers should be willing to work as team members in an outdoor setting.
Terminal:
Harare Airport.
Workcamp Costs:
The workcamp participation fee is strictly 210 Euros. The participation fee covers accommodation, food and projects expenses. Please note that it does not cover travel costs to and from the camp, so participants are asked to reserve an extra amount of money for transport which is between 20 to 30 euros for a return journey.
Leisure Activities:
Weekends are meant for free tours that group/individuals can organize by themselves. You can decide to visit places of interest within the vicinity of the work cam. It has become a custom in all our Workcamps to have cultural nights. This affords each volunteer the opportunity to present her/his country and culture. Please bring with you your national flag and traditional dress if possible.
Critical and Crucial Points:
Participants should arrive at least two days before the camp starts for orientation and they should not go direct to the camp before coming to ZWA office. It is important to note that projects locations may change due to several reasons beyond our control. There might be few applications for participation, late cancellation by volunteers or the community failing to make its contribution to the project in the last minute, and finally insecure situations. Therefore volunteers are urged to be flexible and accept alternative options.
Participants will carry out some conservation work in the Vumba national park. The volunteers will also carry out the following tasks in the national park - renovation of camp sites, clearing trails and putting up road sings.

« I think our work has really opened the eyes of the youth there. I think that, because of our presence, some local youths got the chance to learn about other cultures which they wouldn't have otherwise. »
