Project/Work:
Mkhanya Community School aims to promote quality education among children through the provision of free education. Mkhanya Community School is a new school which was built by YAZ volunteers and the community through voluntary Workcamps.
The community school has two classrooms, one office and two store rooms. The school has 223 pupils with only 4 teachers to cater for the all number of children. The school has five grades. The subjects offered are Mathematics, English, Environmental Science, Social Studies, Local Languages, Hand writing, Drawing etc. All the teachers at the school have not yet gone through formal teaching training. However all of them have completed secondary/high school and they are able to speak and write good English. There is a water well near the school which is used for drinking water as well as cooking and bathing by the local people. Volunteers can also match their skills and interests to the needs of the community. You may also initiate local research projects for a thesis.
The volunteers will be immersed in rural village life and will spend time with warm and welcoming villagers; you will also have the opportunity to assist villagers in areas of great importance to their community.
The volunteers will be expected to teach, run and manage the resource centre together with teachers from the community. They will also be able to teach English and introduct a foreign language for those interested in teaching.
Location:
Mfuwe is located in the south Luangwa National Park area, East of Zambia. It is about 685 Km away from the capital city Lusaka and 100 Km from the provincial capital Chipata. It is 25 km from the park main entrance. Mfuwe is one of the busiest destinations for tourists coming to Zambia and has the best animals in the world!

Qualifications:
Teaching skills especially English and foreign languages for those interested in teaching. Flexible and open minds, desire to help children from poor communities and you should be someone willing to reach out and inspire hope where there might be none.
Accommodation/Food:
The volunteer will be accommodated in a home stay where he or she shall have a chance to interact with the Zambian family and have a cultural exchange experience. The food provided shall be what is locally available and if the volunteers want anything outside of these they shall have to provide for themselves. A volunteer with justified reasons may be allowed to arrange a separate basic accommodation at their cost but must be within the community.
Hosting fees:
200 Euros a month, payable to YAZ upon arrival. This includes in country orientation, in country staff support, written materials pre-departure, communication, food, accommodation, transport to and from the placement area.

Project:
Chawama Youth project is a profit making community organisation. The main aim of the organisation is to empower young people with short trainings in tailoring, carpentry and computers.
Location:
The organisation is located in Lusaka, the capital city of Zambia. It is situated in one of the biggest slums in the province. Almost all the facilities such as banking, good communication, road network, good hospitals can be accessed in the town centre which is about 2 Kilometers away. The area has electricity and running water and the people work in the industries within the city.
Languages:
English, Nyanja and Bemba.
Qualifications:
The interested volunteers should have one or more of the following skills...
- Resource Mobilization. - Financial Management. - Teaching and Practical Skills training in Carpentry, Tailoring. - Information and Communication Technology (ICT).
Accommodation/Food:
The volunteer will be accommodated in a home stay where he or she shall have a chance to interact with the African family and have a cultural exchange experience. The food provided shall be what is locally available and if the volunteers want anything outside of these they shall have to provide for themselves. Project:
Zambia National Youth Development Council is a quasi-Governmental Organization operating under an act of Parliament of 1986 as a cooperating body under the Ministry of Sport, Youth and Child Development. The mandate of NYDC is to register youth organizations in Zambia. Functions of the NYDC include Coordination of youth organizations and their activities; monitoring and evaluation of youth programmes/projects; resource mobilization for youth development; advisory role to the Minister of Youth; training of youth leaders and managers.
Location:
The National Youth Development Council is located at Chinama, 4.5km from the city centre of Lusaka.
Languages:
English, Nyanja and Bemba.
Qualifications:
The volunteers should have skills in Research and Advocacy; Entrepreneurship and Capacity Building.
