Kilelabalanda Community orphanage is both an orphanage and community school whose main objective is to promote quality education among orphans/vulnerable children through community school. The community is mostly comprised of illiterate and underprivileged families and the demand for English speaking teachers is also very high.
The volunteers will be expected to teach, run and manage the resource centre with some individuals from the community. They will also be able to teach English and introduction to a foreign language for those interested in teaching.
Location:
The school is located in Solwezi town which is about 5Km from the school. It is the North Western Province of Zambia which is about 583 Km from Lusaka and 173 Km from the Copper belt Province. Most people are into subsistence farming.
Accommodation and Food:
The volunteers will be accommodated in a home stay where he or she shall have a chance to interact with the Zambian family and have a cultural exchange experience. The food provided shall be what is locally available and if the volunteers want anything outside of these they shall have to provide for themselves. A volunteer with justified reasons may be allowed to arrange a separate basic accommodation at their cost but must be within the community

Duration:
The volunteers have a chance to be in the placement for 3 months. Schools in Zambia break for one month, which is April, August and December.

Interested volunteers should have a clean record as regards to working with the children. Volunteers will have experience of developing and managing efficient administrative systems. The volunteer must be good in advocacy skills and child labor issue as well as counselling. They should also be ready to work on their own as well as part of different teams at various levels. The ability to manage their own workload and work under pressure will play a significant role in the success of the organisation. The volunteer should have fundraising skills, communication and interpersonal skills
The Youth Association of Zambia (YAZ) is a Non-Profit making youth organization whose objective is to improve the living standard of the youth and children in Zambia. It was founded in 1994.YAZ provide capacity building for youth organizations and groups in organisation development, strategic planning, Human Resources Development, project management and advocacy based on Millennium Development Goals (MDG's).The organization involves young people in the activity implementation in order to contribute in making a difference in the community and as well as contributing to personal growth and national development through work and study camps and volunteering.

Mkhanya Community School aims to promote quality education among the children through the provision of free education. Mkhanya community school is a new school which was built by YAZ volunteers and the community through the Work camps. The community school has two classrooms, one office and two store rooms. YAZ and the community are currently molding bricks in readiness for the construction of 3 teachers houses in the upcoming work camps slotted for August 2007 and there after. The school has 223 pupils with only 4 teachers to cater for the all number of children.
Location:
Mfuwe is located in the south Luangwa National Park area East of Zambia. It is about 685 Km away from the capital city Lusaka and 100 Km from the provincial capital Chipata. It is 25 kilometers from the park main entrance. Mfuwe is one of the busiest destinations for tourists coming to Zambia and has the best animals in the world.

Zambia National Youth Development Council is a Quasi – Governmental Organization. Among many functions of NYDC include:•Coordination of youth organizations and their activities; •Monitoring and evaluation of youth programmes/ projects; •Resource mobilization for youth development; •Advisory role to the Minister of Youth; •Training of youth leaders and managers.

The National Youth Development Council is located in Lusaks at plot No. 103, Minestone, Chinama, 4.5km from the city centre.

Kyalalankuba community school is located in Solwezi in the North western part of Zambia. It is situated in Kyalankuba village. The school is currently under construction and the pupils use on of the church as a class room blocks. Most of the people in this village are illiterate. The area has no electricity and no running water. Other essentials like food, banks, hospitals and insurance can be accessed in Solwezi town.
Location:
The school is about 3km from town center. the volunteers can move at any time during the day by themselves as the e place is very safe.

The community is mostly comprised of illiterate and underprivileged families and the demand for English speaking teachers is also very high. The school provides food, nutrition, accommodation to orphans, and economic empowerment to the aged and widows through survival life skills. Most children are in the ages of 7 to 15 years old. There is one old lady who takes care of the children after school. Most of the times, children spend much of their time playing by themselves. The school has four teachers who teach children approximately in six subject that includes Mathematics, English, Environmental Science, Social Studies, Local Languages, Hand writing, Drawing etc. The school draws water from the near by borehole which is used for domestic purposes. The school has one dormitory for boys while girls come from their nearby homes. Two dormitories that will carter for both boys and girls are currently being built. Volunteers can also match their skills and interests to the needs of the community. You may also initiate local research projects for a thesis. The volunteers will be immersed in rural village life and will spend time with warm and welcoming villagers; you will also have the opportunity to assist villagers in areas of great importance to their community.

The available means of transport are buses and taxi’s, the most available toilets are Latrines (long drop), almost all the communication facilities are found in this town which include internet café’s , mobile phones, faxes, etc. health centers, both public and private can be accessed in town. Intra road network is not very good but the road network from other towns is good.

Project/Work:
Contact Youth Trust Association is a non governmental, non profit making organisation whose main objective is to empower youth, encourage and provide counseling to youths for Voluntary Counselling and testing, organizing HIV/AIDS-awareness-programmes, i.e. “join-in-circuit” etc., offer entertainment in the centre, i.e. pool-table, table-tennis, karate, and basketball. The organisation is led by young people. The volunteer will be expected to help the organisation in the coordination of programs and networking with other organisations.
The Youth Centre was donated to Contact Trust Youth Association (CTYA) by Livingstone City Council. Being the only youth centre in Livingstone it attracts almost all the young people in the surrounding areas of Maramba youth centre. The area has no problems with communication, transport, banking facilities health centres and a number of insurance companies. Interested volunteers should posess facilitating skills, fundraising and financial management and be able to initiate programs that will suit the youths.

The Maramba Youth Centre is located about 2 km from the town centre of Livingstone town and 20 Km from the mighty Victoria Falls. It is about 472 Km from the capital city Lusaka, it is Zambia's tourist capital where most of tourists attractions are found. The town has got a good road network.
