Lupande Youth is a non-profit making organization based in Masumba village in chief Mkanya's chiefdom of Mfuwe District. They work with village communities on the issues of HIV/AIDS, Health programmes, Wood craft, and carpentry. They have wide partnership with various organisations, and the local business community. The focus of their work is in developing, providing and coordinating community access to information and knowledge that empowers individuals and at family level.
Location:
Mfuwe is located in the south Luangwa National Park area East of Zambia. It is about 685 Km away from the capital city Lusaka and 100 Km from the provincial capital Chipata. It is 25 kilometers from the park main entrance. Mfuwe is one of the busiest destinations for tourists coming to Zambia and has the best animals in the world.
Accommodation and Food:
The volunteer will be accommodated in a home stay where he or she shall have a chance to interact with the African family and have a cultural exchange experience. The food provided shall be what is locally available and if the volunteers want anything outside of these they shall have to provide for themselves.
Language:
English and Kunda.
Qualifications:
Interested volunteers should have strong communication skills, a flare for working with people at the grassroots level with sociable disposition and attitude. You will have experience of developing and managing efficient administrative systems including the resource centre. Fundraising skills and project management should be one of the qualifications for the volunteer. Skills in carpentry and welding will also be needed. Volunteers should be ready to work on their own as well as part of different teams at various levels. The ability to manage their own workload and work under pressure will play a significant role in the success of the organisation. The volunteer should have fundraising skills and Teaching skills.

This is an extremely valuable project where volunteers can have a massive impact. Also the possibility of learning a huge amount about a country so different from our own. I learnt ten times as much by carrying out a workcamp than I would ever do backpacking. »
